Anyone having problems breathing...???

The past week or so, when I lay down I feel pressure in my chest and its hard to breath... not my painful or horribly difficult... but almost as if someone is sitting or laying on top of me...

Every breath is a deep one... DH and I joke around that its this big boobs weighing so much..but im not sure that it is...

anyone else experience this?

I haven't experienced it, but have heard from other moms and read that it is normal. It's the weight of the baby and cutting off circulation, try resting on your left side.

Re: Anyone having problems breathing...???

I read that around the 30th week the uterus pushes up into your ribcage, which makes things overall more crowded in the lung area, and can cause breathlessness. It also says in my book (week by week) not to lay on your back because the uterus can lay on a main artery and mess with your circulation. it's supposed to be side sleeping all the time now, preferably left side sleeping which is best for your circulation. also, the increase in blood flow/fluids could add to mild breathlessness earlier on from what i've heard.

I just feel very winded most of the time... especially if i am walking and trying to talk at the same time, like when i am on the phone at home some nights and I am putzing around the house straightening up, most people on the other end are like "what are u doing? u sound like your running a marathon!" oh well!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I notice I have that same feeling too...I notice it if I am laying down proped up on pillows (which I have been doing alot of lately) so I add another pillow to make me more elevated.

Re: Anyone having problems breathing...???

I get a week to week update sent to me by email...for week 29 it says :

The top of your uterus is four inches above your belly button, crowding your ribs and diaphragm and leaving you breathless. It's also pressing against your bladder, which is why you're making so many trips to the bathroom once again. The placenta, which is flat and round like a cake and delivers oxygen and nutrients to the baby, is also getting bigger; next week, it will weigh 15 ounces. Your baby may be in a head-down position already, prepared for birth. Even if he's in bottom-down position (called breech), there's still time for him to turn. When he does, he'll drop lower in your abdomen, his head engaging within the pelvic bones at the birth canal.
