anyone heard of natural amber necklaces for teething?
i just saw this on another board that i'm on and wanted to know if anyone here has tried or heard of it.
Natural amber necklace facts:
· A natural analgesic, amber will help calm a baby without resorting to drugs.
· Amber is a fossilized resin, not a stone. It is therefore warm to the touch, as well as very comfortable and light to wear.
· Wearing Baltic amber necklaces on the skin can have a soothing and calming effect on teething babies and toddlers.
· When amber is worn on the skin, the skin's warmth releases miniscule amounts of healing oils and Succinic acid from the amber which are then absorbed via the skin into the bloodstream.
· Amber’s anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties are also recognized by allopathic medicine. They are a traditional European teething rememedy and in Austria, Switzerland and Germany, you will find amber teething necklaces sold in local pharmacies.

I had heard of this an decided to try it for my son who was teething. I got the amber from my mom who is a firm believer in this approach to things. Well sure enough two months later, I had a SCREAMING CHILD, a useless neckalace, and no sleep for two days..... don't even waste your time or money.

This is interesting. I will have to ask MIL if she has heard anything about this. DH is from Gdansk, Poland which is very well known for its Baltic amber. We have a lot of amber at home. I have many different pieces of jewelry and even a horse figurine.
I have never given it to DD for teething but she does like my amber bead necklace.

No, but I did used to let them chew on a sterling silver bangle I have. They stay naturally cold.

I haven't heard of it either. I assuming there is no way amber can break off?

The woman in my class had made hers to suit her DD. She was already about 15 months at the time so she wasn't really "chewing" on it like, say, a baby would. She used very durable cord and it wasn't long so there was no way she was able to get it into he mouth when wearing it.
Ive' been considering making one for DD since these canines (insisors) are making her MISERABLE

Amber teething necklaces are not meant for actually chewing on. They are worn taught around the baby's neck, wrist, or ankle and when the amber warms it's thought to help sooth and calm a teething baby who is in pain. It has to be Baltic amber though and purchased from a reputable place so you know it is real. So many of my friends swear by them!
