Anyone here work for State Farm or have a SF policy...Flood Quest

Yesterday my mom's basement was flooded with about 4-5 inches of water...give or take more or less in certain spots. There was a lot of damage. So she calls State Farm and they tell her that "you cannot get flood insurance on Long Island" I don't think this is accurate...anyone know. Now my mother never asked about it before because in 31 years of living in this house it has never once flooded.

It's not covered under the regular insurance. Flood insurance needs to be added to the policy for an additional fee.

ETA: I remember asking about it when I was looking into a policy when we bought our house and this is what we were told. We have Allstate.

Last Friday I received a letter from my insurance company "State Farm"...

it says:

"Coverage for damage caused by flooding is not provided by your homeowners insurance policy. During severe storms, flooding often causes extensive damage to a home and its contents. Coverage for this rish may be available as a separate policy written through the National Flood Insurance program.

To discuss whether you need any additonal coverage, give me a call at XXXXX".

I meant to call to find out last Friday b/c I was going to get it --then I was kicking myself yesterday...but luckily we had no problems. So maybe it is not covered....I hope this helps.

You need an extra policy for specific flood insurance, no matter the company, as far as I know.

That's weird. My parents have State Farm and they have flood insurance with them. They live on the water, so I believe it is mandatory.
