Anyone hire an interior decorator?

We moved into our new house in late November. It was in move-in condition and we love it, no painting or renovation.

I'm not that great with decorating and need help w/dining and living room furniture as well as window treatments.
I've looked thru magazines and websites, but could really use a "professional".

We used the design services at ethan allen. I prefer to decorate myself though because i am very opinionated when it comes to decorating. but they were very helpful in pulling different materials and patterns together. And it's free (but of course they only use their furniture) so it's worth a shot.

We hired a decorator. We thought that by paying a flat fee, we could get a decorator who was not going act like a salesperson. Well, it turned out that she was totally steering us toward purchasing things from places where she had pre-arranged kickbacks. She also started to insinuate that she needs to "approve" any purchases we would make for the rooms she was decorating.

When we fired her, I bought some decorating books. They were just as useful as she was, without the attitude. She was a friend of a friend, but I didn't know anyone who had hired her for decorating before. If I ever hire a decorator again, I would talk to someone who used that person's decorating services. Also, I would no longer be so reluctant to use the decorator services in a store. At least they are up front about what they are in it for.

Its $75 an hr.

my co-worker's winfe just got into the biz- really great taste and pretty good rates. i know she does realyl wel lb/c she just started her offiical business and shes already raking up things unti december 2007

My Aunt works at Ethan Allen so I use her as my interior decorator for everything!!!
