I work from home for my company (the same as JenniferEver), but it's not a substitute for child care, so not sure how many would really be interested. We all still have full time child care, because it's quite structured still.
ITA. DH works from home as an editor and there is NO way he could take care of a child while working. Legit work from home jobs are just that- jobs.
I agree with this as well. I don't have children, but my cats are enough of a distraction! Even just the phone ringing, the temptation to cook, do laundry, etc. is distracting.
If I had kids, I'd def have to have daycare/babysitting in place while I worked.
I agree. A few years ago (before I had my little one) I worked from home. My oldest was in school so it was good. But it was very much a job. It took up all my day till DS got home.
Now that I have my other DS (2) I know that if I was still with the company (they shut down) I would need to have a sitter here with him. There would be no way I could log in the hours I needed a day and tend to ds.

Freelance writing is very broad, with lots of specialties. If it's something you want to do, you need to narrow your focus.
You can start working pretty quickly with content mills like Textbroker- you don't need any published clips, though the pay is lousy. But it's a low-risk way to see if you enjoy it, and you can begin your portfolio.
It can be overwhelming- I started with resumes because it was pretty cut-and-dried- I took an excellent course and read a lot on my own. I'd actually recommend it as a way to get started if you're interested in business-related writing, which is more lucrative than most other kinds.
I think this is great advice, but I think the pay depends upon several factors. I do some of my work through Textbroker, and if you have a high ranking, you receive higher pay. It also depends upon how quickly you can write. I'm not making six figures or anything, but I'm able to make a full-time income from this site alone (although I have other jobs to break up the day). As you build yourself up on this site, you'll also be able to receive direct orders and team orders. These can pay a bit more, and it ensures a steady stream of work in a field you like.
I've heard that about Textbroker- right now, my challenge is that I write well, but not fast. But I'm going to stay with it because I don't really have anything else going on right now. I'm in the "paying my dues" phase.
FYI for anyone- WAHM.com is a good side. There are job listings and I think the site owner(s) do some screening to make sure everything is legit, but you do need to do some of your own legwork. They also have a great forum with tons of companies (mostly sales related) I've never heard of.

My full time job is work from home. Not sure where we're hiring at the moment though.
I would love this info and the qualifications. My older DD is now in school full time and my younger DD part time but now I could find someone to watch her afternoons if it worked for me.

Re: Anyone Hiring/or work at home jobs
The job I have is a full time 45+ hour a week position and as charon says, you really would need FT childcare. I still think it's good because you have that flexibiliut and you can have childcare in the home and still be there. It's not a program or direct sales.
I also work from home as a travel agent, which I really enjoy and is a "make your own hours" kind of thing but it's a LOT of work, and it is going to take me a long time to build up the kind of client base I'd need to make serious money.

I do transcription from home. It's completely flexible in that there is no commitment on how many hours you need to work or when. If you take a job though you must finish it by the deadline. I'm able to do it without needing childcare as I do it when he's napping or after bedtime. FM me if you want more info.
