Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
So, I'm currently into knitting. Not great but getting there.
I'd also love to crochet again (haven't in years and wouldn't even know how to chain at this point!)
Just got an email from Bernat yarn about a Mystery Crochet-Along Afghan and thought it was a fun way to learn again. It says all skill levels.
Bernat Mystery Crochet-Along Afghan
Basically, you make your own blanket. They give you clues every week (I think it will be a granny square pattern) starting September 22nd. And everyone can check in on their blog (we can have a thread here too just for us!). And maybe even have a monthy crochet gtg.
In the link, you'll find they yarn/hook needs. Sounds like fun! If you order the yarn from Bernat.com, they give a code for 25% off this project.
Hope you join me!

Okay, just ordered my yarn!
It came to $52 and change with the discount and shipping for 19 skeins of softee chunky needed. I have the J hook.
Here are the colors I chose...
Walnut
Natural
Aqua
Pumpkin
And for fun, threw in an ombre... Kimono
Cannot wait to start!

I have signed up for classes on crocheting, but I have not started my class yet. So I cant yet, because I have no idea how to crochet. LOL It sounds fun and I can not wait to see what you make!

FYI, the JoAnn's in Holbrook did not have Bernat softee chunky. I was going to buy it there because they had a buy one get one 50% off plus a 10% coupon but they did not have it. I figured I'd just order online with their 25% discount instead of searching the county!

Oh I am the same way with see and touch! That's why I held off ordering online. I hope my colors look good in person but I'm sure they will. I was always drawn to granny square afghans with the most random colors. I just did a hat with a Bernat yarn and was pleased with it's quality. Never seen this softee chunky but I'm sure it will be fine.
The sale that I saw in the last circular was for Labor Day weekend. I'm not sure if any of the 40% off single or 10% full order had a later date. I haven't gotten a new flyer yet.

Where did you get that 25% coupon. I can't find it on the site.

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
It was in the original email I received from Bernat as well as the blog but I could not find it either so I checked my old emails.
The 25% off code to order from Bernat is CHUNKY19. Gives you 25% off 19 skeins or more. 19 is what you need for this project.
At this point, you'd have to do a faster shipping than standard (if you plan on starting it on time). I ordered mine with standard shipping (I believe I postes when I did so from that date) and I still have not received it. Got an email 2 days ago saying it was shipped on the 14th. But I suppose you can collect the clues and catch up when your yarn comes.

Figures it is expired, that is what I get when I wait to long. I just ordered from Joann's instead, since I can't find it anywhere locally to even get started.

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
I am using Natural, purple, denim, aqua and brown. Basically I pulled the colors from an ombre. Unfortunatly I am still waiting for my yarn to come but I really want to start, LOL.

I'm going to try to go to Michael's today to get my yarn! I'm crazy...I'm already working on 2 projects right now!
I was in Michaels already this week but didn't have the list of the colors I needed.

Right now I am making a blanket for myself, a baby blanket and a stuffed elephant, LOL.
Not sure which Michael's you are going to but I do know that the one in Commack has the yarn. The Patchogue one did not carry it.

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
The first clue was pretty easy, but I love the way it came out!
I read the comments on the blog and they suggested doing CH 2 instead of CH 3 for the beginning of the DC row because the CH 3 was creating a large hole. I did CH 2 and it worked great!
I'll take pics and post them later.
Can't wait for the next clue on Wednesday!

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
I don't like this hole at all, I think I am going to redo the one square I already did and then do it that way. I also got a 7.25 square before I stretched it out and I think maybe i just need to use a larger hook, I didn't do a swatch before hand.

Ooh! That's a good clue to the clue! There's a good excuse for me to start late! You guys can work out the kinks! I'm trying to finish knitting a baby blanket for a raffle donation before I get started. Hopefully soon!
Is anyone doing the gauge swatch? I plan to as I have to reteach myself to crochet so it will be a good test patch.

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
I just did one after my piece was too small and I need to go up to a K. Guage is bigger then the yarn says on the label, but I think since I need these to all fit together I iwll be better off doing it the correct size, Lol.
