Started Clue #3, V stitch, my favorite stitch and it works up quick. Good thing since we have to do 8 of them.

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?

I saw Clue # 3 and I'm excited because I've never done a v-stitch. Also making 8 squares will keep me occupied more than the 2 we've made for the other clues.

I've been slacking on ordering the yarn I'm missing from online - I've gone to 3 different Michael's to try to find it in person but none have the Walnut color I wanted. Gonna order it today.

I'll post pics of my square for Clue # 2 later.

Commack Michael's had a bunch of them but not sure of the color.

I keep forgetting to take pictures of mine.

The V stictch ones work up super quick so it won't take long for these either.

Is anyone having gage issues with clue #3? Mine is just not going past 7 inches

ETA: I was just reading Bernat's blog and a few had this problem and they are all just making the chain 28 stitches instead of 25. Try this if you have this same problem.. I did it and its now exactly 8 inches

And here's my clue #2!

I've only done one of #2 so I have to do one more before I move on to #3. Clue #4 sounds cool with multiple colors!

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?

Started clue number 4 and it looks nice but what a pain in the *** to stitch colors every row. What I did after I did the first one was to work on all 3 at the same time so I could keep working with the same color for a few rows. It helped it making it seem like such a pain in the ***.

Then I noticed that I did 9 v stitch squares. I thought I was using to much yarn, guess that is why.

Oh, I'm still on clue #3. I have 3 1/2 done from one skein (have to read up on how to join a new skein). I had to do 28 chains instead of 25. With 25, they were coming out just too small at 7". My 28 chain squares are just a hair bigger than 8". Can you block smaller? If I squoosh them and not stretch them, they are a perfect 8". Maybe the next 4, I'll switch to a smaller hook and see what that does. I'll post pics maybe tonight of my #3.

I've never switched colors in crochet so I'm excited to try clue #4!

Nice colors! Your #4 looks so nice! I finally finished one tonight, took me three nights frogging just to get this one done! Chat Icon I had a tough time with the color changes and still do not feel like I have it good. And I have all tails hanging off for each color! I have no idea how to weave them in yet. Chat Icon I'll have to youtube that one.

Did you fasten off like the pattern said or do the last two loops like the blog said? How did you weave in your ends? I fastened off but was going to try the blog way on the next one.

And holy moly, I sure hope clue #5 is easy!!!! Chat Icon That's a lot of squares for one week! Chat Icon

I kind of like hanging behind so that I can see pics of what the next clue looks like! I do not need it to be a full mystery. The end product is still a mystery! Chat Icon I want it to look nice!

I'm pleased with how my color choices are looking together though! Chat Icon

Thanks for the compliments on the colors - it took me forever to decide on them! I took a shot in the dark and picked right - I wanted to use the taupe twists & the colors that match the strands in the twists.

I mostly did the color change like the blog said - with the last 2 loops. For the end of the HDC stitch it wasn't working so I did it with the 3 loops.

I'm working on my 2nd square for clue # 4 now and I'm trying to work over some of the ends so I don't have to weave so many in later.

This link gives a quick tutorial on weaving in the ends:

I'm terrified to try clue # 5! Chat Icon

Mine did not come out great for the 4th clue. I followed the directions and should have changed colors the other way. They also came out almost 8.75 inches high while only 8 wide. I was thinking about changing the triple crochet to double and see if that makes it smaller.

That makes good sense. Chat Icon Mine came out 8" high but I have to stretch for 8" wide. If we're not instructed to block at the end, I'll definitely be blocking anyway!

I still have not researched how to weave in my ends! In knitting, you usually go along the edges after with a darning needle but I'm thinking with this, you'd have to weave into it's own color. Chat Icon I did try to crochet some of them in as I was going but was not sure if that was right.

If anyone can share how to weave ends, I'd be greatly appreciative! Chat Icon Do you crochet it with the working yarn or do you hold it taught along the piece and work over and around it? The latter seems to leave a straight line in the backside and the first way makes a bulky stitch or two so I'm not sure which I like better? Chat Icon Chat Icon Or is there another way to do it? If I ever do a sampler afghan, it will never have a square #4!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh cool! Thanks! I missed your reply and thought it was my post from the quote! Chat Icon I'll give it a try tonight! And I'll do my second #4 with the last loops method. So with that, you're still cutting and weaving in after.... there's no working over the ends??? Chat Icon

Wow mine is fine then, lol.

I try to use the end when I keep crocheting, but some times it is to too bulky so I will crochet over it when I do the stitches, or take a big needle and pull it thru a few stitches and trim it.

Haven't started a second #4 yet. Just wove in the ends tonight at my sister b'day party! What a pain in the neck that is! I can see that I will not be doing very many color change blankets in the future! At least not every row that is! Chat Icon

Hey, what do you experienced ladies think about this yarn? I have a feeling this is going to be a stiff blanket. Chat Icon And I also think that it makes my asthma act up! Maybe after I wash it, it will not be so fuzzy and linty. Chat Icon
