Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
How is everyone doing? I took a little break and used my free time to plan a Halloween party!
I'm halfway through my fourth #4 and boy I cannot wait to be done with this one! I don't know if it's the color change every row or stitch change every row or both but this one is giving me such a hard time. I have to count stitches every row because some how I'd lose or pick up a stitch! I'm finishing it tonight and bidding it farewell!!!
Then it's off to #5 wish looks like another nightmare! 16 times over!!!
FYI... check the blog. If you haven't done #5 yet, there was a correction added.
Now they are up to #7! I almost caught up then fell way behind again!

LOL!
So I finished my first "attempt" at clue #5, the mitered square. Yeah, it's not making it into my final blanket!
I felt like it was coming along good but I guess in dim lighting, watching tv with DH, something got lost along the way! It's not quite a square! More like a kite!
I think my tension is getting too tight. I need to find a new hold for my working yarn. And they did offer a tip to loosen up the sc3tog to keep it square, which by the way when I do those, I'm pulling up the back loops of the three stitches. Anyone know if this is the right way?
I am holding out for the final product and I am enjoying learning these new stitches and techniques (most of which I'm learning that I'll never want to do them again! ) but this square seems to be the most dense of them so far and it's the most number of squares in the blanket. I'd hate to go through all of this work and feel like I'm snuggling under a piece of cardboard!
No one else is checking in... has everyone paused to work on Holiday gifts? I'm actually thinking of starting up a few myself but I'd like to keep up with this CAL!

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
I stopped for a while on #5. I just finished #6 and started #5. I think I am going to do the current ones and this one at the same time since there are so many of them to do.
#6 worked up real quick and #7 is one big granny square so that should be easy.

I keep putting off those mitered squares
I finished the giant granny square in about 2 nights - it was easy for me since I've made blankets that way before.
This is what I have left to finish: 2 of the stripey squares 12 of the mitered squares 1 of the shell stitch squares
I keep doing other projects instead!

Oooh! I'm excited about a giant granny square! I have to do at least 3 good miter squares before I move on!

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
I have 4 rows each of the 16 mitered squares done, hoping by doing them this way it won't seem so daunting.

That sounds like a good plan but I want to make sure I can do one right before I screw up all 16 at once!

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
Here's pics of my Clue 7 and Clue 8 ... I have to take pics of my #5 and #6.
Definitely need to block these squares - especially the giant granny square for #7. I read about using steam to block acrylic yarns so I'm going to try that (eventually!).

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
Oh what an exciting peek to two fun squares!!!
I haven't picked up since my first try at the mitered square. When you guys are doing the sc3tog, are you picking up the three front loops or back loops? I did the back on my first try and it looks okay. I was going to try to front loops on my next try to see which looks better.

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
So funny you bumped this post. After all the holiday stuff, I was just going to get back into working on this. I went onto the blog, it is done and seeing what the finished blanket looks like... quite frankly, I do not care for it!!!
The biggest part I do not like is the mitered squares of clue 5 and that's actually where I got stuck and left off before working on other holiday projects.
My plan is to omit the mitered squares and maybe replace them with four more of the giant granny squares. I also may not do as many of the flowered squares that they did. I'll see what I have and lay it out and fill in with the squares I like. I've downloaded all of the clues so I'll try them all (except the mitered squares!).
Looks kind of okay draped and set up for a photo...
Here are pics of finished blankets where you can see some people assembled them differently but there's just something about the combination that makes it look too mish mosh for me. I'll work something out and get it posted here when I'm done!

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
yeah I don't really care for it either. but now that we've "cheated" we can see which squares we'd like to omit.. it is good practice though on the types of stitches

Re: Anyone interested in doing a fun Crochet-Along project?
It looks nice draped over the couch like that, but I agree, I dont really like the way it looks when its laid out. Seems like a cool project though.
