Anyone investing in a DVD camcorder (or already have one)?

What kind are you getting, or do you have? Would love recommendations- and if you don't mind, if you could share what you paid and where you got it or plan on getting it from.

Thanks!Chat Icon I don't want to go overboard on price....but I want good quality at the same time.

Re: Anyone investing in a DVD camcorder (or already have one)?

I'm a little slow when it comes to this stuff lol

My MIL got us a panisonic camcorder where you upload you videos from the camera to the computer then burn it to a DVD. Is that the samething you asking about? LoL it even takes pics! Its so little it fits in your back pocket. I think it was around $300 she paid. I love it. Takes great video and like I said its so small! We were going to get the HD camcorder but honelty think it wasnt worth 700$-800$! HTH!Chat Icon

ETA: the camcorder we have has a memory card and you put the memory into the computer to upload them and burn them to a DVD. So you have videos on a memory card and on your comp.

Re: Anyone investing in a DVD camcorder (or already have one)?

We got one for Christmas. My parents were very generous and bought it for us. It is a Sony Handycam HD camcorder. It records to a memory card not a DVD. We haven't used it that much yet but DH has tried it and says it is awesome.

We really wanted to have one especially since my parents live far away. This way we can send them videos of Baby Powers when he/she arrives. I will try to find a link to the one we got.

No problem! My parents got it at Best Buy for less than it is listed on the Sony website. This one was rated well with Consumer Reports.

This is the one we plan on getting too. My BIL works for best buy and said the best camcorder to get is the one with the memory card.

Re: Anyone investing in a DVD camcorder (or already have one)?

we just got the vado hd (by creative labs). it's one of those little ones (about the size of a digital camera or wallet) that connect to your computer by usb. it's kinda like the flip, but the image quality is better, has an external battery (ie if the battery craps out you can just buy a new one whereas the flip you'd have to replace the camera), and holds more computer. it also has an hdmi out so you can connect it to your tv. it only holds about 2 hours (hd, 4 hours standard) but we couldn't spend the $800+ on a real panasonic camcorder and we figured we'd use this more as you can just throw it in your bag. it was about $229 on the creative labs website.

BIL got us a sony handycam when DS was born as a present for him/us. I think it was about 350 for the model he purchased. It is a phenominal present.

I got one for DH for Christmas. Ours is HD and the camera itself has 60G internal memory and also can take a memory stick. It currently is selling in the high $500's

Re: Anyone investing in a DVD camcorder (or already have one)?

My only suggestion is that you get the one with the DVD not the tape. I have no idea how to download the tape onto the disk. There is suppossed to be a way to burn it onto the computer and I just can't get the two to connect. I asked the store clerk at Best Buy and he starred at me without an answer...

I was trying to go a little cheaper but I should have gotten the DVD:(

But, a camera is a must have. We didn't have it with DS#1 and we are so happy to have it for DS#2.

So is it better to have the one w/the DVD or the memory card?

I would like to know as well because we want to purchase one too....I never had a camcorder before, but I think w/baby on the way, it would be worth it

In general, I like SONY...the handycam HD sounds good....will I be able to get it from memory card on DVD easily?

We just bought the same one. We where between this one and a Sony HD. My DH did a lot of research and came up with these two (Sony and Cannon), as the best ones to get. We went with the Cannon since they where having such a good sale. It was $550. A few months ago it was selling in the $800 range. The SOny actually was alot cheaper as well. It was around $900 a few months ago and now it was selling for around $700. We bought it at the 6th Ave Electronics, but I think they are about the same price everywhere.

Basically, you put whatever's on the memory card onto your computer, then you can edit and burn it onto a DVD...at least that's my thinking. So, the memory card only works if you have a good computer that has a DVD burner I would imagine.

Those in the know, correct me if I'm wrong....

I have a MacBook so I definitely want the memory card. There's awesome software on this computer.

I think I'm gonna go with the Canon HG20- thanks for mentioning that one girls! I was stuck between that and the Sony but I was reading the CNET reviews and I like the price. So I think that's the one. Thanks!Chat Icon
