Anyone know anything about CT?
We currently live in Smithtown, and my Dh travels to westchester everyday for work. We are thinking about relocating to CT...anyone know any inexpensive areas....I was looking at Danbury..any thoughts?

Re: Anyone know anything about CT?
My BF is in Stamford -- lovely house and great property, much lower taxes but she says that Stamford schools are not very good. However I am sure there are a ton of other towns that have great schools. I love it up there...

Re: Anyone know anything about CT?
I grew up in Milford. It's a cute town, but a hard commute to NYC and 95 is horrible in rush hour to get to Westchest IMHO
We have friends in Danbury who love it and it is affordable (not sure what the commute is like, but he commutes to Greenwich - which is on the Westchester border)

Where in Westchester does he work? You don't want to get to far away in CT.

I agree- you mentioned Danbury, which DH and I like a lot (we live in NY, just over the border and about 15 min. from Danbury). It has its nice parts and not so nice parts, it's affordable, the shopping is convenient. But if he works in lower Westchester, the commute may still be long. Though 684 is a good road, it never gets traffic like LI. And I suppose anything's better than Smithtown to W'chester.

everyone said that me- but when I look on MLS I just didn't see it
CT is def better for taxes- but I didn't think westchester was all that bad- but I am comparing it to Nassau county

I agree, Stamford to New Rochelle, isn't a bad commute I don't think. Greenwich is even closer, but, well, It's Greenwich!

Re: Anyone know anything about CT?
I drive from Queens to Stamford everyday
it can take anywhere for 30 minutes to 120 minutes- average 45 minutes
I would say New Rochelle to stamford could be 10 minutes to 30 minutes
30 minutes being worst case - rain, snow- accidents
I take 95- I am sure there is another way to go- I just don't know it!

Re: Anyone know anything about CT?
How far of a commute is your DH willing to do? Danbury is about an hour away, while Stamford is 25 minutes away with no traffic. I'm not sure how bad the traffic is from Stamford down to New Rochelle, but traffic going into Stamford is awful, especially from CT towns that are further north on I-95. There are beautiful towns along I-95 in CT, but they're very $$$ and traffic is a nightmare.
There's definitely a big difference in price between Stamford and Danbury. You can certainly get more for your money in Danbury, but the commute will be significantly longer. I don't think the schools are particularly great in either area. I think your decision will really depend on how much you're willing to spend and what your expectations are (i.e. possibly spending a lot of money for a house that needs a bit of work).
New Fairfield is slightly north of Danbury and is supposed to be really nice. I'd check out that area too.
