anyone know anything about FSH?
Is there anything that can lower the number? And basically how could you lower the number? You cannot gro more eggs so to speak...so once you get a high number arent you kinda stuck with a diminishing reserve?

Re: anyone know anything about FSH?
Hi Donna,
Sorry this is going to be long because borderline high FSH is my diagnosis, I can try and help in any way I can. I'm not sure of your numbers but I hover between 11.5 and 15 each month. There is really no cure to lower FSH but I have been able to lower mine by cutting out caffeine completely, cutting out alcohol and sugar drastically, the theory being that if your kidneys are working hard to "process' all of "the bad stuff" and keep you flushed out, then they aren't working as hard on secondary processes like reproduction. I also go to acupuncture, take vitamin B6, my prenatals, and an herbal supplement from my acupuncturist. There is a lot of info out there, here are a few of the boards I frequent high FSH support ivf connections high fsh julia indochiva
if you haven't already I would read Julia's book Inconceivable, I can lend you my copy if you'd like and the Infertility Cure by Dr. Randine Lewis.
It's also important to work with a FSH friendly RE, here are a few - Dr. Davis at Cornell, Dr. Sher at SIRM, Dr. Check at Coopers
I am investigating natural cycle IVF since I'm a poor responder with conventional IVF.
Good luck and much baby dust!

Re: anyone know anything about FSH?
Just wanted to pass on some information on what the FSH does...
FSH is released by the pituitary and stimulates the ovaries' production of estrogen. It gets the ovaries to develop the follicules.
The estrogen (estradiol) produced by the ovaries "feedsback" to the pituitary to decrease the production of FSH. If the ovary does not have enough reserve to produce sufficient amounts of estrogen, it does not "feedback" to the pituitary and turn off the production of FSH. Therefore the blood levels of FSH will be higher than normal.
Many doctors believe that antral follicule count is a much better way to determine reserve. This is basically when they measure how many follicules you have that are about 4mm early in your cycle.
FSH levels could be elevated due to immune issues. Many Re's don't acknowledge immune issues much...but most will send you for testing if you desire. There are a limited amount of reproductive immunologists but there are doctors that have a special interest in immune issues. Many times after the immune issue is treated the fsh levels lower.

Re: anyone know anything about FSH?
I second The Infertility Cure...(haven't read any of the others Donna recommended tho... ). It is very insightful to our bodies and how everything works in harmony -- or out of harmony, in some cases. I read a few pages every night.
Donna (dm), my acupuncturist really believes that acupuncture can help improve the FSH levels. I haven't had mine tested again but I was 12.7 a few months ago. Since then, I had one chemical pg last month, and this month...well, my temps are staying up, even took a jump upwards today so I am hoping that my FSH levels were lowered and maybe just maybe...

Kara, I think you'll really enjoy Inconceivable, I'll bring my copy to the GTG in case anyone wants to borrow it. it's about a woman over 40 with very high FSH levels and her journey to getting pregnant by herself, no medical internvention... I found it very inspiring
Here is the info inconceivable Image Attachment(s):

Re: anyone know anything about FSH?
Thanks guys!
I got Infertility Cure by Dr. Randine Lewis. in the mail TODAY!
The accupunture I would do in a heart beat if I had that type of money. Right now Im about to start Physical therapy and between the meds, that and the RE visits. I am paying like $400 a month in co pays and we simply cannot add to it, another $40-$50 a session of acupunture weekly. I am looking into going to a teaching school for acupunture with lower rates though.
My highest FSH was like 11.6 and the new RE states you should always go by the highest number not the lowest.
The thing is Im only 30, so it seems high for someone so young ...

Donna, my acupuncturist is covered by my insurance (which covers nothing else practically!!) and she puts in for a higher amount so I don't have ANY co-pay.
I can give you her # if you want to check....

Do you think next time you go you could mention me, or ask her rates for self pay?
I know headache relief and pain is not gonna be covered through my insurance. I do know other things that are, but I would feel weird asking her about it.
Its no big deal, but thank you if you do
