Anyone know anything about grass?
We planted our grass in the fall and now I'm not sure when to fertlize it and with what? We put a winterizer on it late fall..

Hubby says he doesn't do anything till mid-late April then he uses starter fertilizer and seeds.

Jenn--- I don't know how you feel about it but I am totally against chemicals for the lawn.
1. It seeps into our water system and is bad for us, and all living things
2. Definitely bad for my dog who loves to eat grass
We use only natural fertilizer if anything at all, and only once in the beginning of Spring.
Just a thought.

We get it at Hick's Nursery ....or Organic.... no chemicals.... I will ask DH what brand.

At least you have grass. Half my backyard is MUD. 
My MIL thinks we should just overhaul it completely (kill everything and start from scratch).

The last owner didnt take care of the grass in the rear of the house at all. He had someone come and take care of the front yard though. We have these things in the grass that eat the grass, but I forgot what they call them.....
I keep seeing that Scott Fertilizer commercial, and I would die to have a lwn like that

we did that with our last house... it was a MESS! After we fixed the cesspools we brought in dumptruck loads of topsoil and replanted... there were so many weeds and onion grass that I don't think we could have fixed it other wise

We have this problem as well. Although DH is still trying to get me to agree with the synthetic grass....but I don't like the look of it. He insists that he's having them come and give us a demo.

scott you can have them come to your house and do a free analyzation of your property, I did it but I was not happy with their prices- way too expensive. but check it out, I plan on getting or telling my landscaper this is what I want done from their survey b/c my landscaper ***** - he mows 4 leave clovers and whatever else that green stuff is that isnt grass, good luck

Thanks - I will have to look into that - It is wierd - the front of my house gets a lot of shade, but we have no trees, and the back of my house gets no shade at all

Grubs...
Chemical fertilizers = BAD environment for you and your future children!!
Kara do you know what gets rid of grubs but not harmful to pets? TIA.

I've heard the same thing, my friends husband is a landscaper and he calls it "the happy homeowners crap"
