Re: anyone know of a good breeder

I could be wrong about this but I do not think reputable breeders have (breed) designer dogs.. Chat Icon They are not recognized by the AKC.. I could be wrong but this is what I have read on this board.. I have never done my own research..

tea cup is just another name for smaller dogs. For example my Pom is 4 lbs and a standard pom is 3-10 lbs (AKC standards) so I guess she would be considered tea cup. Unfortunely my breeder is no longer in the area and i've lost contact. You can go online and look it up. You can go to the AKC site for Yorkies and they give breeders. You could do a search in the area. Also, you can go to newsday. They show breeders that's where I found mine...

Re: anyone know of a good breeder

there are no reputable breeders for morkies or any cross breeds. only backyard breeders and puppy mills do that. reputable breeders breed dogs for the better of a breed so if it's not a real breed, it's not a reputable breeder. i also don't believe that teacup yorkies or chihuahuas are real breeds according to akc so you won't find a reputable one either. smaller is not necessarily better. especially with yorkies. as my time as a groomer, they have alot of behavioral problems. not all, but alot. go on the akc website for a list of reputable breeders or go to that breed "of america club" website. like i went on dachshund club of america to find my dachshund's breeder. those are the only 2 websites where you'll find real breeders. when looking at dogs, make sure you ask alot of questions, ask to see both the b!tch and sire, meet the whole litter and pick from there. don't pick a dog from a website. (plus reputable breeders won't even go through that route) most make you sign a waiver saying that you will get your dog spayed/neutered so be prepared for that, and they're going to go through like a huge history of you and your family. they wanna make sure that their babies are going to the right family. good luck. also, check out petfinder.com you can look up by breeds and you'll find alot of great dogs that are in need of homes! puppies are ALOT of work, you lose your life in a way because it's like taking care of a baby. you have to be up with them every few hours because their bladders can't handle not being released that long, and you have to feed them 3 times a day. make sure you have the time to actually care for a puppy. an older dog (even if it's like 9 months) can hold their bladder longer and are easier.

don't do this. reputable breeders don't advertise in newspapers. the way they figure, if you really want the dog, you will find them. only eager backyard breeders or puppy mills are the ones to advertise because they just wanna get rid of the dogs

ITA. Please go to the AKC website and look for someone who they recommend. Once you have alist, please go prepared with a list of questions to ask a reputable breeder. You should be interviewing them, just as a reputable breeder will interview you.

If they are not AKC registered, then beware. There are several "fake" kennel club registries that were created just to aid in the sale of BYB & PMs.

I totally disagree with this statment. There are certainly reputable breeders of morkies and mixed breeds. Look at the labrodoodle...that is one of the most popular breeds out there. They were once a cross breed but now are a breed of their own! My advice is do your research. I'm sure you are a smart person and can go to the breeder and see if they take care of their dogs and they are in good living condition...if they are then I say go for it! There is a difference of someone who breeds on the side b/c they love dogs and want to share them with others and puppy mills who put dogs in bad living conditions just to spout out babies!

Check out this site for more cross breed/hybrid information

Re: anyone know of a good breeder

I don't want to get into an argument here, but I wanted to clarify. If they are a mixed breed, they are not a breed of their own.

The AKC is the only organization that can approve a new breed. And all the ones on that link say "mixed breed" under them because that's what they are. Even if they are descendant from two purebreeds.

Lastly, anyone who deals in designer breeds, turning a profit on the current trend or fad, is not a reputable breeder in my book. You can love a mutt just as much as a purebreed. But it doesn't speak well for someone's intentions when they are asking hundreds and thousands for a mixed breed without generations of bloodlines to trace and ensure there are no ill affects like nasal passages that are too small to be effective or joints that have hereditary arthritis.

Just my opinion, as someone who has had and loved both mutts and purebreeds.

Well put. The ONLY mixed breed that is currently even being considered for it's own breed (officialy) is the Cockerpoo. This breed has been in development with the AKC to very specific standards and guidelines for almost 3 decades. It takes a very long time for a new breed to become recognized, and certainly does not happen in the span of a fad.

Re: anyone know of a good breeder

it was an accident, i erased the wrong name

just FYI, morkies are not an official breed nor is cockerpoo. anything that is mixed, is just a plain old mutt. real breeders do not breed mixed breeds. it goes against what they believe in and the purpose of their job.. to better the breed.

a pitbull terrier isn't even a real breed. alot of "breeds" that most people think are legit aren't real

Re: anyone know of a good breeder

oh and you strictly can't go by if a breeder says it's AKC. many backyard breeders & puppy mills will say it's akc. alot of people who buy dogs don't actually register their dogs so they figure, by the time they try to register the dogs and they aren't legit, it's past their "warranty" just don't buy from a store. you're GUARANTEED to get either a puppy mill dog or a backyard breeder dog. i don't wanna sound preachy, i just want you to get the correct information and give a dog a good home

i don't have a recoimmendation for a breeder, but you should also look at maltipoos. they are really cute and don't get too big.

I agree, and I do know exactly what you are saying, but the AKC website will not recommend a breeder that does not show their dogs and is not in good standing. Also, a REPUTABLE breeder will require at least a limited registration of their dogs to maintain their good standing in the AKC. There are breeders who "fake" their AKC papers, so I do understand where you are coming from. There are a whole laundry list of questions that you should ask a breeder to help determine if they are responsible or not, and the questions have more to do with standards of breeding, quality and selection of breeding partners, vet care, genetic testing, requirements of pet ownership, etc.

Rather than have this thread turn into a PM education class, the OP can refer to the pinned thread at the top of the PETS forum to get some good guidelines.Chat Icon
