I got offered a job with them, and I had to turn it down because it was too much of a commitment. They wanted 40+hrs a week during peak time (this time of year) and it had to be certain times of the day, and no kids could be around. Not good for a SAHM if that is what you are looking for. I would have had to hire a babysitter while I was working and they were only paying something like $9/hr so it wasn't worth it.

Re: anyone know of a "work from home"

I think if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

As a mom with the "perk" of being able to work from home if I want, I am not foolish enough to expect to be able to get any work done if DS and especially DH are around. Chat Icon

With technology a lot of places can offer this, but expect a decent amount of work completed the same as if you were in an office environment.

FYI: I am a social worker and the majority of what I can do at home is treatment plans/client paperwork/phone calls.

Re: anyone know of a "work from home"

Many work from home jobs are obtained from past professional connections and companies experimenting with telecommuting. I would ask around among old co-workers and bosses if you still have contact with them. If not joining Linked in to re-kindle any past professional connections is a good option. I worked from home for a bit when my daugther was young and it is very difficult to get things done. You would definitely need a babysitter and be very disciplined.

You could always babysit for some extra money, start a small side business or do some form of direct sales. Pampered chef, Avon, Mary Kay, Scentsy and other similar businesses allow you the freedom to make your own hours and a little pocket change. I was always very anti MLM but since I decided to sell Scentsy it has been a good opportunity for me. I don't make enough to depend on it but a few hundred extra dollars a month helps out.

There is a webite called www.momcorps.com. I haven't used it but was considering quitting my job at one point (have since gone to PT) and was going to look into this site and opportunities on it as a way to stay current in my field. GL!

Rat Race

Most WAHM jobs on that list don't pay much. Some even require $$$ up front. I agree with the PP most WAHM find work through previous employers/contacts. That was definitely the case for me too. Good luck!

Re: anyone know of a "work from home"

Are you looking for a "program" or a full time or part time job?

At my company, most people work from home. it'sa full time 40+ hours week job though

ETA: My job was not always work from home. I was in an office for the first 3.5 years of it. Since we work from home they have given us tighter controls (monitored phones) etc, and we have set in stone productivity goals.

Working in an office, you could have a day when you maybe did less or kind of came down from a hard week, or caught up on paperwork and stuff, but with this job, I have to make my goals EVERY day (in my case that means a minimum number of outbound calls).

Re: anyone know of a "work from home"

I work at the same company as JenniferEver.

I will say that most WAH jobs aren't all they are cracked up to be.

You still have to work, you can't watch your children while working, and it's not 100% flexible.

I worked in an office for 9 years at this company before we all became WAH workers. I truly miss having coworkers around, my commute (time to unwind), and my office in general.

I agree with this. Even though for physical reasons, commuting was very hard on me, it was a time when i could mentally separate work time from home time. Now my DH gets home and I'm still hyped and I get pretty restless.

I also miss my co-workers so so much.

Re: anyone know of a "work from home"

I work from home and I am an Exec. Assistant and get paid well. I love working from home, I get to drop off DD at school, pick her up, see my DS during the day, stop by DD's school on special occasions such as her birthday etc.

The downside is I sometimes have to workin the evenings if I dont get a lot done during the day but the upside does outweigh it for me. I dont miss the social interraction with co workers at all as I have a steady stream of calls during the day so I am too busy to notice.

My mother is a medical transcriptionist and works from home, but she had to take a course. She's been doing it for a long time though.

Have you thought about entrepreneurship? It's a lot to begin but it could work and may be easier than trying to find an established work from home job. I run a small writing business part-time from home. I have done courses on the topics I specialize in and have a degree in English, and I hope to be able to expand and leave my FT job. My brother has an online store selling camping equipment, maybe something like that would work.
