I gave up on finding a permanent position in teaching. So happy I left my almost six figure position in the city to get my masters, bust my *** to get a 4.0, get chosen to be the role model teacher for ncate accrediation, and still can't find a friggin' job that's not sub, tutor, or private school pay. I'm so sorry that you're my career twin, Cookiegobbler. Wow, that was a funny sentence with the Cookiegobbler name tacked on to the end. That's a great screenname -- makes me laugh. Wow, holy side-tracked. Anyway, it's all about making connections and/or being in the right place at the right time. If I hadn't stopped subbing in the same district every day, and was willing (or able) to continue getting paid $95/day or a tutor salary of $13,000/yr, I MIGHT have a leave replacement position right now, but after student teaching and going to school FT, I need to get paid a real salary to pay back my loans! It shouldn't have to be this hard, really. And I look at the people who get these teaching jobs and it makes me sick, it really does. Chat Icon

I totally am in the same situation.... with getting married this past June, all my schools loans, and having a mortgage I cant afford to just sub every now and then and make such little money! Its so freaking frustrating, cause now I have all of these loans to pay off and I am no further along than if I never went to school to begin with!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

OMG, I think the lady from sub service is on LIF bc right after I posted that she called and offered me a leave replacement position but it was only for six weeks, but still .... hello, i was unemployed for six months, you couldn't have offered something like that to me then?!? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Needless to say, I had to say no bc I just accepted this full-time position (making half of what I was making pre Masters but double what subbing pays me.) I'm just so depressed. It was right in my own school district, in my own town (the school my kids will go to), and I had to say no, knowing full well that this may be my only opportunity to ever get a ft job there. i'm so upset.

Re: Anyone know of any perm sub positions or leave replacements in Elem Ed??

Girls, I am feeling your pain. I am currently looking in NJ and thought it would be much easier finding a job here than on LI and it's not. It's disgusting how little subbing and tutoring pays. I was so frustrated yesterday after interviewing with a tutoring center, I told DH I was ready to go back to my old job. It is so depressing what it takes to be a teacher these days and the sacrafices you have to make.Chat Icon Chat Icon
