Anyone know of stores that let you trade in cameras?
I have my deceased father's INSANE SLR camera, with around 9 different lenses and a crazy flash. This camera is totally paparazzi style--I'm pretty sure it was over a grand when he bought it.
None of us can use a camera this big, so I'm wondering if there is somewhere I can trade it in and get the Olympus Pen or even just a more compact SLR.
TIA!

you are better off selling it yourselfs. Trading things into stores is also less the actual value you can get for it.

Yeah I don't have the model number even...so I can't. No books, no nothing.

Adorama and BH Photo in the city do trade ins. I know Olympus also has a program. You can plug in the info on their website and they give you an estimate.

I'd do a search on ebay for completed listings of that camera to get an idea, just keeping in mind that you will get less when you trade it in because the store needs room for mark-up to sell it.
Good Luck!

Likely the lenses are what would be the most valuable - because most could be used on a DSLR (although autofocusing may be an issue).
I agree with everyone else that selling them yourself is the best way to get the most money. You could get an estimate from B&H's used department AND Adorama & then you'll know what the low value is. It is the least hassle but they do give you significantly less.
For the lenses, an example of a lens is: Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3
Also I'm sure he has filters on the lenses, which also are worth a little extra. If you're local to Huntington & want me to help you figure out how to list them, feel free to FM.
