Anyone know of two different gender siblings charing a room?

We have an almost 6 y.o. boy and an almost 4 y.o. girl and a two bedroom apartment... anyone in the same situation?

I grew up charing a room with my sibling and it was the best experience EVER, but we were both girls so that's why I am a little confused by the whole thing...

If anyone has any advice to give or share their own experience that would be great!

My cousin's kids share a room. The boy is 10 and the girl I think is 6. They are in a 2 bedroom as well. So far its been working for them.

i have friends who growing up were able to do this until about puberty....then they moved.

We are in the same position, except my kids are only 3.5 yrs old. We will stay in a 2 bd until we can't any longer.

We live in quite small houses and many of my friends have their kids sharing rooms, one friend has an 8 year old boy and a 5 year old girl, another whose girl is 4 and boy is 5.

I think its a great idea if you haven't got space and your kids are both good sleepers.

My kids are sharing a room right now but we're moving in part so they can each have their own room. DH is adamant that DS have his own room, since DH never had to share a room with his sisters when he was growing up.

I do know of friends that do this with their 8 year old boy and 4 year old girl. They have an extra bedroom, but apparently the kids WANT to share the room and love it. I'm sure that will change soon though!

My niece and 2 nephews share a room. They have space for my niece to have her own room, but she prefers to stay with her brothers! The boys are 11 and 8 and my niece is 4. They set up one room as the "dressing room" where they change clothing, so it's not too awkward.

My niece (5) and nephew (4) share a room. FM Michelle1123 if she doesn't see this post! Chat Icon

ETA: My 7 month old b/g twins share a room but we do have a spare room available. DH and I decided that we will let them choose when they want to seperate. From speaking with other moms of b/g twins it seems around 7 years old is common age to split up.

I shared a room with my brother growing up and we used to have so much fun!
If we have a 3rd, my DD and DS will be sharing a room for a while!

Re: Anyone know of two different gender siblings charing a room?

My 5 year old DD and 3 year old DS have been sharing a room for the last 3 months. They had thier own rooms but now the baby is in my DD's room. They love it but I do plan on moving my DD back to her room to share with her sister when the baby is a little older and sleeping better.

I shared a room with my brother growing up. By the time we were in junior high, we each took turns sleeping in the living room bc then it just became weird for both of us. It worked well up until middle school. We had a blast and really became awesome friends bc we were so close.

I shared my room with my brother until i was about 12 and he was 8. We live din a 3 bedroom apt, but the spare bedroom was my fathers office/junk room and then made it my brothers room.

I think you can get away with it for a little longer, but at a certain point they will have to be separated.

Wow, so many replies, I was just hoping for maybe 2-3! Thank you!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Apparently, this is more common that I thought.

DH is making a big deal out of it and saying that it's completely unacceptable. I feel that we still have a few years when it is! Clearly, the majority of those who replied are with me!Chat Icon

My 5yo niece and 3yo nephew share a room, have toddler bunk beds and love it

My 12yo niece and 10yo nephew share a room and don't mind it. They recently put up a room divider held up by their two dressers so there is a bit more privacy BUT from the beginning they were taught that you bring your clothes into the bathroom and change there so it was never an issue.

My brother and I just had a flimsy divider in our room, until I was in HS and he moved out LOL we would gossip through it like girls! Chat Icon
