Anyone know the link to the NYS guidelines for student to teacher ratio for preschools?
As a spinoff to my prior post, I am now thinking about the student to teacher ratio at my son's preschool, and wondering if it is adequate for the number of students they have or if they are even within the NYS limits.
Does anyone know the link or guidelines to the student to teacher ratio for NYS for preschool? And daycare (not sure if it is different)?
Thank you!

Not sure about preschool but, for daycare:
6w-18m - 4 to 1 18m-3y - 5 to 1 3+ - 6 to 1
My older DS is three and there are 18 kids in his class and 3 teachers. I have some friends who send their kids there for preschool and they pick up at lunchtime and they tell me it's absolute chaos...

In a registered school, at least two adults must be available to each group of children at all times. In addition, the following adult-child ratios must be adhered to (indoors and outside): Three Year Olds: 1-8 Four year olds: 1-10 Five year olds: 1-15
So... they probably get away with more than they should because you said mixed age groups 3 to 5, correct?

Mixed age groups must go by the lowest ratio. So for mixed 3-5 they should be going by the 1-8

Is your preschool located in a day care? or school? many day cares have preschools now a days.
If so, ratio for preschool is 1:7(3 years old) 1:8(4-5 years old) anything under 3 is 1:6 6wks-18mths is 1:4
if its mixed ages with 3 years old...its not 1:8 its 1:7 again this is if the preschool is out of a day care and license through NYS OCFS
