Anyone know where I can buy a house on LI
for around $250K with 3 beds and at least 1 1/2 baths?
 riiiiiiiiiiight! dream on!
if I can't find one, DH wants to leave NY   please help!!!!!!!!!!

I'd say go east...you have a better chance of finding that further out east - maybe the Mastic area or something like that. You could also consider a house with a rental in it. We have a rental in our house and it pays a big chunk of our mortgage.

That is a rare find, but I bet it can be done..I dont think you can go too far east, as there is not much of anything for that range.

You many not be able to find that for 250K, but if you are willing to go further east you can find it for under 300K!

Not sure your DH is being reasonable. You can probably get a nice place for about $350K in mid Suffolk. All depends what you are looking for.

WE have friends who just bought a 3-bedroom house in Bellport, south of Montauk Highway. Not sure about the area at all though, but htey paid in the $200's and live on a really cute, well kept block.

I know I've posted my story many times, but we bought our FIVE bedroom THREE full bath waterview house in Ridge for $260 in 2004. It was total fixer & we put about $25k into to it right away(we did all the work), then about another $15-20k since then.
Yes, Ridge is pretty far east but we love the slower pace. It can be done, but you will have to compromise on things to stay in that price range. For example, we don't have a garage or an outside basement entrance-those were both 'must haves', but we had to accept that we couldn't get everything at that price.
It sounds like you'd rather stay on LI than relocate. Good luck!

I think a few of these could be had in your price range....yes they are all less than perfect but that's to be expected.

this looks like a great house, but you'd have to come up in price a bit
this is in my neighborhood, its been for sale a while-i think they'd take much less
this has lots of potential, beach rights, eager seller
what about a big co-op?

Here is one in Mastic it is a little higher priced but has an apt in it. It is a good area of Mastic and is Manorville schools, not William Floyd which is what you would want if you went to that area.

FYI for anyone looking the one you posted that says "looks like a great house" in Medford, is definitely not. we saw it back in August. There's reasons its still on the market. Although they have come down over 30K in their asking price.

Could you go to $350? That may be possible, but $250, I don't know. You may find a co-op with 3 bedrooms for that price, but even that is doubtful.
