There used to be a place just a little north of Times Square. And on Long Island, I used to have to get my skates from Jesse Halpern Skate and Tennis. I just googled it and it is still around!!! I was a competitive figure skater but on roller skates, not ice, when I was a kid.

ssdbk, i was a competitive roller skater too when i was young, maybe we competed against each other 
isn't it amazing the crazy stuff you can find on ebay??

I didn't live in the area but that is where my coaches were and I trained and practiced there. For public skating sessions and knock around fun skating, I was either at Commack or at Laces in N-pt. Every time one of my childhood rinks closed down, I thought of that song, COME DANCING, by the Kinks (The day they knocked down the palais
Part of my childhood died, just died.)
