anyone know where to get over the counter reading glasses with a very weak prescription

OK, I have a feeling I am asking a group that is too young to have this concern yet but if you can help me........

I now need glasses for the computer. I bought a pair of my distance glasses and a pair in my exact computer prescription and I spent about $800. I really need to have some extra reading glasses to keep near my computers b/c I may leave them at work or whatever. If I go back for a custom pair at the place where I get glasses, they said that the cheapest pair would be about $120. I know that the prescription is a simple +.75. They sell reading glasses in the drug store for $5.00 and up but everywhere I have looked they have started at higher numbers like +1.25. Has anyone else found a mild prescription in an over the counter pair? I realize they are not as good as getting custom lenses but I just need extra ones for now.

Should I just try an eyeglass place that has a special? Who has great specials? Even if I get my exact prescription for about $40 it is better than the quote I got.

Girl, I am in the same boat with youChat Icon
I was going to suggest the drug stores but if you've already been there.

Can you try Costco? They have good cheap glasses.

Just got new contacts and the female doc said she needed to start stepping down my contact script because "as women of a certain age" Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have no idea what she said after that, I just heard... "Women of a certain age" over and over and over and then it became the teacher voice from Peanuts.. wah-wah-waaah...

So now I have a weaker contacts script and have to hold reading material further away from me... I've become one of my aunts.

Thanks everyone. The Dr. actually told me that no one really avoids this & eventually no one sees the way they did when they were 20 So, I guess we all become "women of a certain age" :(

I still remember getting so mad at my grandmother when I showed up at her apartment and she told me she had just cleaned her bathroom and I'd walk in and there were still specks of dirt or drops of toothpaste around. I'd tell her she can't see, then clean it a bit better and she would refuse to get new glasses. Then when my son was born it seemed like his grandmas didn't clean him very well if they did diaper changes. I think they didn't see what I could see. Now I don't want to be in the third generation of people who refuse to get new glasses but I do hope that I can have some spare pairs without it costing as much as a used car!!!!
