Anyone make their own green beans?
I have been giving DD jarred food but I am interested in making some of my own. I have a bag of frozen green beans and thought I would try with them. Anyone have luck with this...any recipe I should follow? I know there are some good books out there but I honestly dont know how often I will do this.
ETA: When dd is ready for meats anyone have suggestions for making their own instead of the jarred?

Re: Anyone make their own green beans?
I have been making my own, and did frozen peas and carrots on Sunday. When using frozen or even canned, make sure there are no added ingredients like salt or sugar.
I steamed them (either in a rice cooker, a steamer basket that goes in a pot on the stove, or you can microwave them--covered it keeps the nutrients in).
Than I threw them in the blender and pureed them. Some foods you have to add the liquid left from steaming, some you don't. I don't really because DD seems to like the thicker consistency, but the peas and carrots I needed to. You can also use a hand blender (by Braun--racheeee uses this), a food processor, or a baby food maker (made by DEX available at BRU or online).
I hvae read that green beans can be tough to puree to the right consistency. Haven't tried them yet though.
I have done sweet potatoes, butternut squash, peas & carrots (mixed), raw banana, raw mango, apples, pears, and I've used canned peaches and pears in pear juice concentrate and that worked well also.
Good Luck and feel free to ask me any questions!

Re: Anyone make their own green beans?
Yeah, I do loads of food for my kiddy. But I think today I am going to head to Boots to buy some jarred baby food so the kid can have a little bit of variety.
So yeah, I steam the veggies in a steamer attachment to my sauce pan, let them cool down a little bit and then blitz them with a braun hand blender. I have done sweet potatoes, mangoes, carrots, butternut squash, figs, apricots, pears, parsnips...thats it I think. If your puree is too thick, use some of the steaming liquid.
I do A LOT of pears because they can sweeten most foods and Noah doesn't really like veggies, so I mix them with pears.
Its easy and very cheap!

I do green beans and you have to add water and blend them forever. They still are not as smooth as jarred but my boys will take them, even though they will not eat homemade peas.

Re: Anyone make their own green beans?
Thanks everyone. I am going to try making the beans. Anyone know if I freeze them in an ice cube tray how long they stay good for. If I am going away friday through tuesday should I not make them tonight and just wait till I get back?

You can freeze them for at least a couple of months. I did for my older one and she didn't really like them plain, but I would mix with pears or sweet potatoes.

Re: Anyone make their own green beans?
I believe the cubes can stay frozen for 3 months
we are travelling soon as well, and I'm just taking jarred food with us. If anything I'll do bananas and mangos if they are at either house where we are staying.
And if we have veggies with dinner, if they are plain I'll mash them for her and see if she'll eat them
