I started solids at 6 months with all 3 kids. All EBF and all never took a bottle. I never had any issues with foods.

DS does get a bottle of "old Betsy's boob juice" a few times a week, but other then that he is BF. I am not planning on giving solids to him until 6 months. If he shows a big interest in them before hand then I will, but only then.

I'm not planning to start solids until about 6 months. The research that I've done all says 6 months, not earlier than that. I plan on following the advise in this KellyMom article.

Re: anyone not start solids till 6 months?
DD is now 5 months old taking 35 ounces of formula a day and no food. I was going to push the doc at our last appointment, but he feels that with my going back to work in two weeks, he would rather wait until dd is into the grove with the babysitter before starting. That seemed like a good enough reason to wait the extra month!

Re: anyone not start solids till 6 months?
There is nothing wrong with starting solids whenever you feel like it...
However, just wanted to share something I saw on a news program. It stated that contrary to research in recent years, they are now finding a link between food allergies occuring more often when the foods are being withheld until infants are older.
The belief over the past few years was that starting solids early (3-4) months may lead to allergic reactions but findings are shifting the other way.
Just something to think about! It was the same thing they are finding with pet allergies as well....the earlier a childs exposure, the less of a likelihood of allergies later on. I just found it interesting.
I started my son on all solids by 4 months and he did great. But all babies are different!

Re: anyone not start solids till 6 months?
I think the link between starting kids early on cereal and allergies is BS, IMO. I also saw the news article as stated by the poster above. Everyone in my family, from my parents to me, my cousins, etc. started cereal much earlier than 3 and 4 months and NONE of us have any food allergies.
DS is 4 mo. old and I am starting him on solids b/c milk is just not enough for him. Also, my dr. recommends starting solids earlier.

Yes, when solids are started later than 6 months of age, the risk of allergies increases.

Re: anyone not start solids till 6 months?
I waited the full 6 months with my first and will likely do the same with DS. I bottle fed/feed both. A spoon is a spoon, a bottle a bottle and a breast a breast. There's an adjustment no matter how you feed them so don't sweat it too much. I purposely waited it out to avoid food allergies because I have some weird ones, my sister has some and I held out as long as possible on each step in solids so that I could hopefully avoid any problems.
