Anyone on Folgard?
I spoke w/ a nurse from Dr. K's office today. She said that Dr. K had already written out my protocol and she was going to be mailing me some prescriptions to get bloodwork done. She then mentioned my starting to take Folgard- and said the reason was because even though my lab tests for a certain test (and I forget which one she said) were within normal range, Dr. K felt that I should start on this--- and something about clotting issues, which could lead to a m/c if I get PG off of IVF. Does anyone know anything about this? I emailed a different nurse (the only one whose email address I have currently) and am waiting for a response- but since I haven't heard from her yet I'm thinking I won't until at least tomorrow. TIA!

Folgard is for iron, so your iron might have been on the low side.

Thanks Gerty I just looked at my notes that I scribbled down and they mentioned homocysteine- and said that up to 20 was within 'normal range' and (i think) mine was 7... so she said Dr. K prefers to put his patients w/ a level like mine on this... just to be safe. I just have never heard of it before...

Re: Anyone on Folgard?
I take it for MTHFR
What is MTHFR? Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is the name of a gene that produces an enzyme, also called methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase. If a person carries the genetic mutation that inhibits production of this enzyme, it can result in hyperhomocytenemia, which is an elevated level of an enzyme called homocysteine found in blood plasma.
When the body is deficient in methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, its ability to absorb folate (also known as vitamin B9), such as folic acid, is inhibited. Folic acid and B9 are both essential to the development and health of the fetus.
