Anyone playing tricks on their class?
I think I will do a couple of news headlines, such as Pres. Bush doing the No Vacation Plan.
Also, a new species of animal has been found.
I will assign a ton of homework.
I think I might also say it's March 32.

We were lined up at the door, ready to go out to the buses--my kids had been playing tricks on me ALLLLL DAY and kept wondering when I was going to pull one on them. They had definitely given up at this point.
We were standing at the door when I pointed under the table near the door and screamed "A SNAKE!! A SNAKE!!!!!!". My kids went nuts, screaming and jumping around!!! I got them SOOOO good!
P.S. we are in NC, where snakes are just a bit more common...

I watched a trick totally backfire today. Another teacher scared them with a HW check and said he was grading it and not accepting any excuses for missing work. (He is normally the MOST lenient teacher in the world.) Well, he made his first period class promise not to tell anyone else it was a trick, but they still told his other classes about the HW check and grade, so they started COPYING each other's. When he found out, he was pretty upset about that -- since that's not exactly the solution one would normally have in mind -- and he caught one of the kids (a junior boy).
I walked into that office before 9th period (having no knowledge of this trick) and saw this boy absolutely sobbing and apologizing for copying and saying that the worst part of all was the he lost this teacher's respect. The teacher promised him he didn't, of course, but I felt AWFUL seeing this. And the thing is -- when I think about the "trick" -- it wasn't even that bad! It was a HW check! It was something he could do any day and just chose to say it counted for a grade today.
Yeah, that turned me off any kind of April Fool's tricks pretty much forever. I like to avoid drama if at all possible, and it's too easy to find in high school anyway.

OK I'm a total idiot. I just reread and realized what it is. The 1st grade teacher in me couldn't relate, but the ex-HS student finally came through.

Ooh sorry! (I get so used to the lingo we use that I forget it might not be... real ) Basically, he was just going around checking that they'd done their labs. In any case, it's all blown over now - except that this kid knew I was there and saw his meltdown, so now every time he sees me, I get this very embarrassed smile from him (and this look on his face like he wants to say... PLEASE don't tell anyone you saw me like that). I think we're ALL glad April 1 is over.
