Anyone rent in the area before you bought?

Hi! Just wondering if anyone rented in the area that they like before buying? We have an offer on our house in Queens & are toying with the idea of renting in the Commack area before purchasing. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Not in NY but yes I did. We moved to NC and could not decide in what area we wanted to live. So we rented for 2 years, then that house got sold and we still werent sure, so we moved into another rental that we are now buying!

Yes, we do, now actually. I think it is a really really good idea personally. Especially if you plan on buying a home there to be in for a long time. It is a way to truly get to know the area and the people and whether you like it (espcially if you have kids). Also, it will help you to better know exactly what you are looking for and where you want to be in that area. Finally, its good for buying too b/c when you find the house you want you have the $$$$ already and don't have to worry about selling something.

Yes, I rented in one town for a yr, and then one town over before buying in the first town.

When I was renting it wasn't because I had planned on living here. It's just how things turned out and looking back at it, it's actually a good idea to rent in a neighborhhod before buying there.
