Anyone rented a carpet steam cleaner (rug dr) from Home Depot?
Yes, we did this often when we were in our apartment. We had no issues and the machine cleaned great.

Anyone rented a carpet steam cleaner (rug dr) from Home Depot?
Great machine but I've gotten tons of feedback that the Bissell mahines are better. Rug Dr only works in one direction, Bissell works in forward and reverse. And with either one, just make sure you continuously empty the dirty water chamber and clean the beaters on the bottom of the machine or you'll just be forcing the filth back into the carpet.

Great machine but I've gotten tons of feedback that the Bissell mahines are better. Rug Dr only works in one direction, Bissell works in forward and reverse. And with either one, just make sure you continuously empty the dirty water chamber and clean the beaters on the bottom of the machine or you'll just be forcing the filth back into the carpet.
I thought you could only rent rug dr?

Check the price on the rental.
We found that buying a carpet cleaner at BBB with a coupon was cheaper than 2 rentals. So if you plan on doing it more than once, it may make sense to buy it.

THIS. I bought a machine and it was the best thing I ever did. It works great. I used to pay stanley steamer and it was 100$ 2-3 times year. I use it a lot. The rentals skeeve me a bit. Those beaters were touching everyone else's rug. Some people rent them to get cat pee out of carpets.

And yeah, I could see how the rentals could be gross. I don't even let my cleaning people use their own vacuum they bring.

I know you can rent a Bissell steam cleaner from PetSmart for $25/day I think.

We wound up buying a Bissel also - well worth it for many reasons (not using a machine that was used in someone else's house and cost being 2 of the biggest). I think it was around $190-$200

Sorry to hijack the post, but I have Stanley Steemer coming on Saturday to clean and protect the carpet. If I have the carpets protected, can I still clean the carpets myself?

There are a few different Rug Dr machines. Can rent them at places like Depot & Pathmark. Ace Hardware and a few others rent Bissell. Bissell from Ace is $24.99 for 24 hrs and $34.99 for 48 hrs. $3 more to rent the upholstery tools.
