Anyone running NYC Marathon this Nov??
I qualified via NYRR's 9+1 program, so I'm already in. I've run 4 half marathons, but this will be my first full, so I'm looking for someone to train with!

Re: Anyone running NYC Marathon this Nov??
I'm in (deferred last couple of years), but am unsure of whether I can....I have 2 toddlers so most of my runs are at 5am. If I decided to do it, I might consider taking off Fridays as the long runs got really long and doing them while DH is at work and kids are with child care. This would be my second full. I just want to figure out how to train without interfering with family.

Good Luck! I wish I could do it with you - I'm due in August and there is no way that I have enough time for a fall marathon I feel so strange not having something planned.

i don't have kids yet, but it's the commitment to training that is scaring me. as of now, i have to do the 20 mile run while on our anniversary trip in hawaii. going to be hard to get that one in~

The training is the toughest....but it is manageable. You will be fine. You can also rearrange the 20 miler and do it before you go. Hawaii is a great place to run, I did that on my honeymoon.

I agree that schedules are not written in stone. When is your trip? You should run your 20 mile run 2 weeks before the marathon. What day are you coming back?

I am not doing it this year and I am soo sad! I did it the last 2 years and it is AMAZING! You are going to LOVE IT. Make sure you wear your name on your shirt! And FM me if you need any tips!
Also Runners World has a forum for the NYC Marathon...the people are a bit competitive over there but can answer any/all questions about the race!

thanks for the feedback. we're leaving 9/30 and coming back 10/9. the marathon is 11/6. i typically follow the hal higdon plans, and he has the 20 milre during my trip!

Re: Anyone running NYC Marathon this Nov??
I think you are looking at the Intermediate schedule. It's definitely a choice, but even HH will say you shouldn't follow the INT plan for your first marathon. I am on the V-boards and if you go over there, the majority of people will agree with HH. (HH will answer you as well).
I will say that I thought that I could follow the Int schedule for my first marathon and I definitely burnt myself out and started hating/despising/resenting the long runs. Since then, I use the Int 2 training schedule, but use the N2 long runs - and am so much happier. (I do like the Friday pace runs)
the marathon is an entire different beast. There was a good quote from Dean Karnazes, an ultramarathoner, in Runner's world this month that can translate to the half vs full marathon. ~100 miles isn't twice as hard as 50 miles, it's about 4 or 5 times harder~ (not the exact quote, but something like that)
