I know a sub 26 min 5k is very possible for me.

Are you doing the winter series? If you want I'll pace you to a sub 26 for one of the races.

My biggest pet peeve in races are people lining up way too fast. I can see 30 sec/mile even 1 min/mile, but some people line up in the 7 min area and they start out jogging. That's one good thing about the NYC races - your race number is your pace and you can only go in your corral or slower.

I even heard people in front of me say that everyone does it Chat Icon so when we started walking towards the start, I tried to just slip in front of them and they shouldered me out of the way. Seriously? you are lining up in the wrong place, yet you still want to bully your way in front of faster runners?

I hate that!! At one race, there was a woman in front of me at the start with a stroller - not a jogging stroller, a regular stroller!!!

Just got back from the race. It was very well organized, great course, and a great turnout.

My running was less than stellar (for me). I ran even 27 minutes. I don't really know what happened. I know at the beginning of the race I was weaving in and out of people (even though I started in the 8minute corral I felt the people around me were going very slow for that pace). I maintained a pretty good pace for most of the race- just not fast enough.

I know a sub 26 min 5k is very possible for me. Today was just a bad day.

For the ladies who decided not to do: I highly reccomend it for next year. It was one of the most well organized runs I've (as far as smaller runs on L.I) with alot of great raffles (and hot chocolate, coffee, and bagels!)

I agree...it was a great race. I ran 28 and was very happy with that since I was trying to break 29. You are right about the line up--why do people do that? That would just crush my ego to start at the 7 minute mile and watch everyone pass me. I am honest with my start...always at the 9 minute mile. That being said...there were walkers that started at the 9 minute mile mark....annoying!

Congratulations, great job! I wanted to try this one, it's nice to hear it was organized. There's nothing worse than a race that is not organized, it just sets the tone for the entire race. You will break 26 minutes; I know how it feels when you have your mind set on a time. Like you said, sometimes it's just not your day. That makes all the difference in the world. Also, the weaving sometimes wears you out, I find myself doing that often, it can be frustrating when people don't start in the proper area for their pace. If you like the cold, there will be several opportunities to do it on some flat courses come January!!

Thank you for the encouragement! The weaving was definatly causing me to lose my Mojo- trying not to blame my time on that though!

I havent signed up them because I know there's one I definatly can't do and I'm not sure about the others. I might try the Jones Beach one but I'm worried about how cold it will be.

Even worse than joggers starting out too close to the front are walkers. I ran a 5k on halloween and had to push through WALKERS!

The same thing happened to me on Thanksgiving at a turkey trot. They had no system for organizing the people at the starting ling. There were WALKERS lined up in front of the runners and they would not move out of the way. I seriously started the race a minute in (I started my nike + after I crossed the starting line) and then another 20-30 secs before I really started running after weaving in and out of people. And then when I went to check my results on line, my name was not there at all and my # was listed next to someone else's name. Chat Icon The whole thing was very disorganized.

Sometimes you just have a bad day. I am sure you will run a sub 26 soon. Chat Icon

This is the second time I did this run and it is always very organzied and lots of fun. I love it plus I live in Seaford. I wanted to do in low 28 and I did 28:16 so I am happy but next race I will have do be in the 27's Chat Icon Chat Icon I started at the 9 min mile marker and it was a disaster to try and weave in and out of ppl not to mention I HATE when there is not a chip time!

Good job everyone who did it and see you there next year!

BTW the color of the shirt was so blah! Last year was a nice blue and year before a nice red (my friend told me) I don't know what happened this year!

Re: Anyone running the Seaford Hot Chocolate run on Saturday?

I was telling my dad about how annoying the start was and he told me to always start an entire minute ahead of your expected pace. Interesting though...he's been racing for a long time though so I think I might tkae his advice next time! Better than weaving in and out.

I did the pancake run on Sunday and met Julz! It was so funny, I went up to her, not even realizing it was her until after I asked her if she knew where the starting line was. I was impressed I recognized her from her photos. We both had great races!! Our starting area was I'm sure much less crowded than yours.

No...I have mom guilt, so I rushed out of there to get home and relieve DH. I also placed in my AG and didn't stick around for the award :(
