Anyone see themselves as never owning a house but rather...
owning an apartment instead?
I always thought we'd have a house, but the more we think about it, the more we think that maybe owning an apratment isn't such a bad thing. I mean, there are some amazing buildings in Queens with great school districts and fantastic ammenities. And they seem a lot more $$$ better than a house.
Just curious if we are the only odd balls who are okay with not owning a house.

This isn't for me - I own a house.
My brother on the otherhand LOVES his co-op in Queens (an owned apartment) and he would never buy a house.
To each his/her own!

i think it depends on what kind of person you are.
house ownership versus condos, and co-ops
you have a lot more things you have to maintain in a house. such as the lawn, gutters, roof an so on. with the apartments you avoid all that and just pay maintenance. i think that if you are a person who just likes the "inside" part, apartment is the way to go. but for me, i settle for smaller inside for a larger yard. i couldn't live without a bit of land. i love gardening and landscaping so house ownership is for me. but if you hate to mow, then you should buy an apartment and watch people from your terrace mow the lawns while sipping lemonade on a hot summer day.

We lived in a couple of Co-ops and decieded that we wanted the privacy of a home. No loud music or TV's.

You are not alone We currently own a co-op in Forest Hills and we are really happy where we are.
When we bought our co-op, we could have easily afforded to buy a house on Long Island, but we chose (gasp!) to buy a co-op!
I looked at houses for 1 day and decided it wasn't for me. I wanted nothing to do with keeping up a large house, dealing with a lawn, snow, etc. plus we wanted a really good commute to the city. If things had worked out differently, we would have bought in Manhattan. It's nice being in the apartment and not worrying about "house" things.
We are happy where we are right now and I am not sure if we are going to stay in an apartment or buy a house. It is likely that in about 5 years we may buy a house on Long Island or Queens, but our move will be more motivated because of child care (family living in Nassau County that will be watching our kids).
