I took it for about a month to go with my adhd medication to keep my mood stable being on a stimulant. I had a horrible reaction to it. I had insomnia, problems breathing at night when I took it, my muscles ached so badly I was in tears, I seriously felt like I had the flu really bad. My skin also got very dry and I started to develop a bit of a rash on my chest and arms. My doctor pulled me off it b/c of the side effects and the fact that I really didn't need it afterall. Good luck with it if you try it.

Just joined the boards recently, and I work in a hospital so I've had some experience with prescribing it.
Lamictal is generally one of the better tolerated options (as compared with some of the older meds). Some people do get a rash with it, but its a relatively small percentage (not that that helps if you get it!). If he has problems there are many other ones that can be tried....

I do not, but I considered taking it at one point for my seizure disorder. It is supposed to be fairly safe to take if you are pregnant, and I wanted to have a baby. But I did some research and asked what people thought of it on this epilepsy board, and some of the side effects bothered me. Primarily insomnia, which is a problem for me anyway. And some epileptics started having more seizures with it. I don't know why your brother needs it, but one problem with this drug is that the blood levels can change rapidly, meaning you need to keep checking it to make sure it is working.
Then, there were some new studies that showed it wasn't quite so safe for pregnant women as once believed, so I decided to stick with the med that works for me.
