Anyone take these classes at North Shore Hosp?

There were 4 that caught my attention...

1 - LAMAZE: DH has been asking about this and I agree we should definitely do this to prep me for labor. ($175)

2- Breast Feeding Basics ($65/couple)

3 - Breast Feeding Beyond the Basics (topic include pumping and returning to work while BFing). ($65/couple)

4 - Baby Care Basics ($75/couple)

Anyone take any of these classes. The 2 I'm not so sure about spending the money on are the BF Beyond basics class (the Basics one I'm definitely taking), and the Baby Care basics. I have little experience with infants and DH does have a child, but the child was an infant 11 years ago and I don't want to feel like a clumsy idiot when the baby comes. If anyone took any of these classes and felt they were worthwhile please let me know.

Could tell me where to get the contact information about these classes? I would really appreciate it, since reading through the descriptions I was like "I need them all"

I took all of them. I think that they were all pretty good although my husband thought baby care basics was a waste of time. it basically teaches you how to change a diaper, how to bathe the baby, etc.

Definitely take Lamaze. Also, you may want to take the Infant CPR class....

You can find them all on the NSUH website.

Also, just want to add that i really didnt think that it was necessary for the husband to take the BF classes although a lot of husbands were there.

Re: Anyone take these classes at North Shore Hosp?

i took all of these except BF BEYOND BASICS since i'll be a SAHM. i really love those classes. even though some people will tell you that LAMAZE class is a waste, dh and i thought it was really good to know these stuffs (breathing, dilation, when to call dr, etc) ..not sure how useful they will be once i'm in labor but at least will know what to expect.

BABY BASIC was really good. i babysat alot when i was younger but not when they were newborn. alot of the information may seen obvious or people might give you advices but i prefer to hear from a professional.

i made my dh go to BF class with me. i want to do it the right way and if i'm having trouble with it, i want DH to know it's not that easy. not sure how your dh is but mine is one of these guy that ask you a million times "can't you do this?" if he doesn't understand - which annoys the heck out of me.

overall, the money was well spent. i guess being a first time mom, i want to be well prepared and educate myself as much as possible. also, i wish i took infant CPR. that next one is after my due date Chat Icon

We took the Lamaze and the baby care basics...

We thought both classes were great.... and we made some friends in the LAmaze class and we actually ended up being roommates after delivery.....

I took all those classes except lamaze. Still deciding whether to take North Shore's lamaze or the one offered through my doctor. We are also signed up for infant/child cpr in January. I thought all the classes were very informative.

I won't be taking any of those (not breastfeeding and hoping for any drugs they'll give me so I don't think I need the lamaze either Chat Icon) but I do plan to take the baby cpr course - thank you for this post, it was my reminder that I need to sign up!

I plan to take drugs, as did most of the people in my lamaze class. I still found it very informative as far as how the birth process went, and I particularly liked getting the hospital tour. It's a big time commitment but you might want to reconsider.

I'm taking the baby prep/lamaze class through my OB's office, but I plan to take the Infant CPR class. I need to sign up too!

Re: Anyone take these classes at North Shore Hosp?

I already have infant CPR certification, but it's a good idea now that it's more "real".

Also, I just realized, is LAMAZE still worthwhile if you plan on being induced? I mean I guess I could end up going into labor prior to the inducing date, guess it's still worthwhile to know if I need to get to the hospital prior to that date?

I took Lamaze, BF Basics, BF Beyond Basics and Baby Care Basics at North Shore and Infant CPR at Red Cross. I dragged DH to all of them except for BF Beyond Basics. I recommend Lamaze, BF and CPR. BF2 was OK, but Baby Care is a waste of $. I could have learn everything from a book or from hospital nurses.
