anyone teach 6th grade in a middle school?
I currently teach 6th grade in an elementary school. My district might open a 6-8 school. For those of you who teach in 6-8 buildings, are the elementary teachers teaching 6th and the secondary teachers teaching 7th and 8th or does everyone have dual certification and teach 6-8??

i tecah 6th grade in a 6-12 school. i am certified 1-6. everyone teaches in their content area.. since i can teach all 4 major subjects i got stuck with Science and Math but could have gotten ela and ss

I am in a Middle School that is 5-8. The 5 & 6 are taught by elementary teacher and the 7 & 8 are taught bu the ones who are certified secondary (7-12)

I teach in a MS that is 6-8. Those who teach 6th are elementary certified and those who teach 7-8 are certified in a content area.

oh ok whew! Since the 6th grade teachers teach all subjects, how is it decided which subjects they teach (assuming they team teach)? Does it all just work out or does seniority come into play?

I *think* our teachers get to choose what their preference is to teach - it might be by what their concentration was on for their degree also. I can find out on Monday if you want

If you could that would be great! I know that each district is different but I just wanted to see how other 6-8 buildings were set up. I know that there is a new middle school certification (5-9) and I wasn't sure if I needed it.
