Anyone use a French Press for Coffee?
Do you use it everyday? Does it really make the coffee taste better? And do you reccomend one? TIA

Re: Anyone use a French Press for Coffee?
My DH uses one and loves it. I can't drink coffee so have only had a cup or two...but I do think the press has an amazing taste...and notice a big difference. He uses it on the weekends...he doesn't have time during the week to deal with it.
Hope that helps. I am not sure of the brand, but the ones at BBB I think are the same brand as the ones we have.

Re: Anyone use a French Press for Coffee?
we use a french press sometimes on the weekends...
we have an espresso machine now so we've been super into lattes and espressos lately... but we used to use the french press when i'd make big sunday morning breakfasts.
we have one like this:
ours is from williams sonoma (from our bridal registry) but i'm sure you can get a similar one cheaper with a 20% off coupon from bed bath.
i'm copying/pasting this from my DH:
you get all the oils and flavors from the coffee because there isn't any filter on it, and the water is always in contact with the grinds
the water is steeped in the coffee grinds instead of passing through the grinds in your standard automatic drip coffee so the coffee is stronger too
if they don't like strong coffee they should get a medium blend of coffee from starbucks, and remind them that the strenght of the coffee has nothing to do with how much caffeine it has, it's the roasting of the beans and the taste is so much better, as you can attest to

for everyday use we have the cuisinart grind & brew. the coffee is really delicious and doesn't take long to make at all. you can set a timer on it so that it's ready at a certain time in the AM.
All you have to do is put in the coffee beans and water and it does the rest. Plus, I like that you can take a cup of coffee before the whole carafe has brewed

I had one, and imo its not the greatest. I could never get it right, and I think drip coffee tastes better.

DH uses his every weekend. No time during the week. Yes it is a better brew, but you have to get the timing right. Once that is perfected,

LOL starting to see a trend here. DH also uses his every weekend and loves it. To me, drip coffee is better but I don't tell him that since he's happy with it.

We use ours often. It definitely makes great coffee. I don't understand the time comments because it takes no longer than brewing a pot of drip coffee...

My DH leaves himself 10 minutes to get out of bed and out of the house. No time for coffee *here*. He gets it from a coffee cart in the city.

Re: Anyone use a French Press for Coffee?
DH worked for Gloria Jeans the coffee store back in the day and swears the french press is the ONLY way to make coffee. Personally, I never drink it no matter how it's made, so if it makes him happy, I'm all for it.
The only thing I do know is that the coffee has to be a coarse grind.
