Anyone use a stethoscope to hear the baby's heartbeat?
Someone recommended using a stethoscope to hear the baby's heartbeat. Anyone try this?

Unfortunately, it won't work until after 24 weeks or so....the baby is too far away from the surface of the belly to hear his/her heartbeat until then.
I've tried numerous times with mine (I have a $300 cardiology scope) and I still can't hear a darn thing except my bowel sounds or my own heartbeat....I'm just over 18 weeks now. I'll keep you updated as to when I can actually hear my baby  through the scope.

I have been meaning to try this. My mom is a nurse, I have to remember to ask my mother to use hers. I am 28 weeks so I should be able to hear it now....

I am 27 weeks and plan to try it soon. I don't think you can do it any sooner than 24 or so weeks.

Even with a really good stethescope it is very hard to hear the HB...........
You really need a doppler!

I've tried and didn't hear anything. I'll try it again a little further on.
When I couldn't hear the babies I tried my cats instead.  Purring is VERY loud with a stethoscope, lol.
