anyone use optimum voice? more questions ...

if so what do you think about it ? is it comparable to regular static service?

did anyone have them connect it to your home phone jacks - if so does it work ok?
do they charge extra to call US cell numbers?or is it only international numbers?

i am just so confused by the flyers they sent me. they say service is 34.95 but then they say if you are an existing customer it is 24.94 unless you have premium service then it is 14.95 for 1 year if you sign up for triple play ( then on the bottom it says in fine print only new customers or customers with basic level sercive who are upgrading can sign up for triple play)
so i am wondering how can you have premium service and sign up for triple play if it is only for new customers or basic customers upgrading?

sorry alot of questions i have to disconnect my static service it went up 60% last month just looking for alternatives. thanks alot for sharing info.it is so appreciated

Re: anyone use optimum voice?

We have it and it is fine. except we don't have international calling. We have a land line for my business so there is no concern if cable goes out (no cell phone service in my house). We are happy we made the switch!

I have it. It's been working very well. At first it was a little glitchy but it was when they first offered the service. Now there is no noticeable difference - except the $20-30 savings each month.Chat Icon

there is no CHANCE that we would ever get VoIP with cablevision!

we have way too many occurrences with losing either TV, internet or both. NOT WORTH it to us.

Re: anyone use optimum voice? more questions ...

I like it except:

For the past month I have not been able to delete messages so my VM box is full.

No international calling unless you pay an additional $20 month (I think) . I now just buy the cards & use the 1800- number services from the phone.

The service will not work if there is a power outage.

We have triple play and all calls within the US are free. When DH travels to Canada or other places outside the US, I call his cell and their is no charge.

Re: anyone use optimum voice? more questions ...

we have the triple play package with silver premium service. At first the phone was a little glitchy but overall we are very happy with it. My folks have Vonage and that was much worse in the beginning. Now it's ok for them and much cheaper than static carriers.

Frankly phone wise I had the same amount of outages from Verizon as I do from Optimum voice. Every now and then there will be a problem like I said, I think they are comparable. I am saving a ton of moolah with the triple play. For us it's totally worth it.

Look at it this way, you can try it and if you hate it-get rid of it.

Quick Question.....does Vonage have a real 911 yet? I remember a few years ago they had an electronic 911 and it was not too good. Chat Icon

I can ask my folks about it. I know then wouldn't get it if there wasn't a viable 911 option. That is very important especially since they are senior citizens.

Another point, they are not as thrilled with Vonage as they were with Cox (that was their carrier in AZ)..I think it's better now with all the VoIP carriers now.

I am sure they have made advancements in the past 3 years..but I remember the 911 issue was the reason we did not get it.

They have it now BUT you have to call and activate. Imagine how many people DON'T know that!

Re: anyone use optimum voice? more questions ...

I have vonage and they have what is called an enhanced 911. Basically you put in your location and that calls the 911. The reason they do is b/c you can take your phone modem anywhere in the world and retain any area code you wish.

For example, we have a 718 area code but we live in Nassau. Either way we had a medical emergency about a month ago, and the cops/ambulance was at the house in less than 5 minutes.

I am not sure what cablevision uses in terms of 911. I also recommend a power backup. If you lose electricity, or cable neither Vonage or Opt. Voice would work.

Nonetheless, I have had Vonage since 2003 and I highly recommend the service. If anyone wants a free month feel free to FM me also Chat Icon Chat Icon
