Anyone want to adopt a doggie? UPDATED with pics!
My brother has a very cute dog that they are looking for a new home for. He brought her home from his firehouse but with two kids and one on the way and my SIL the one home all day to train her when she's never had a dog, it's just not working out.
The vet said she was a boxer mix, very healthy, has all her shots and she is really a good dog but she's still a puppy and is in need of attention and training. You can tell she is a good loving girl at heart!
My SIL is trying to get a pic of her emailed to me but if you'd like more info, please FM me or email at [email protected]. And please pass on the word to anyone you might know!
Thanks!
ETA:: These are actual pics I took of her today! She's such a cutie! Image Attachment(s):

Re: Anyone want to adopt a doggie?
How old is she? Get a pic. My brother wants a boxer, just bought a house...but I dont think he would be ready just yet as they arent even close to moving in yet. But tell me more so I could pass it on to him..

Re: Anyone want to adopt a doggie?
I do not have a pic yet. SIL is not that camera/computer savvy so she'll do her best. And I'm leaving to go away tomorrow and will not be back until Tuesday.
She's definitely still under a year. If I'm not mistaken, the vet told them she was only about 5-6 months in the early Spring when they got her.
I know they are looking into Bide-A-Wee if no one turns up to take her. SIL was told that they do not euthanize so she wanted to look into it.
P.S..... anyone know of a shelter that does not put dogs under? I know some say they don't but they can technically say that if they do not do it on site. But they hire a company to take the dogs and do it elsewhere.
Are there real humane rescues out there?

Re: Anyone want to adopt a doggie?
The only truly humane shelter on long island is Little Shelter in Huntington. I don't know how much luck you will have getting them to take her, but all the others including BideAWee will put the animals down after a certain period of time. Did you try posting on Craigs List also?

Re: Anyone want to adopt a doggie?
Try contacting local shelters and see if they can do a courtesy posting. He keeps the dog until a new home is found.
Or take her to little shelter in Huntington. They are amazing.
Good luck.

Re: Anyone want to adopt a doggie?
I'll let them know. Thanks! I told them I'd post a notice on my few message boards. So we'll see what happens.
Thanks!
They live in Islip Terrace, Suffolk County. Even though I will be away for the next couple of days, I'll be checking my email so if anyone would like to arrange to see her, please email me [email protected].
Thanks!

Re: Anyone want to adopt a doggie? UPDATED with pics!
She is so cute!!! She looks happy and the kids look like they love her.
They really want to get rid of her?
I just can't understand it, I am such a dog lover and I just couldn't give my dogs away, especially to a shelter even if it was a no-kill shelter.
Good luck, I so hope she finds a good home, she deserves it.

What kid doesn't love a dog? It's just not working out for them. You don't know if your family can have a dog until you have a dog. They gave it a good try though.

I will pass this on.
Please dont take offense, it just breaks my heart.
Breaks my heart so badly, thats why I passed it on but I know anyone will ask me "what didnt work out?"
Thanks!
No offense taken but please don't get so emotionally attached to a negative thought. Anyone who's interested in the dog can feel free to contact me for more information but there's not much more to tell than what I've already posted.
As mentioned in my original post, my SIL is the only one home most of the day to train the dog. She has no dog experience what so ever and has tried her best with books and help but with two small children and a baby on the way, they both found that a dog requires a lot more work than they could give. They thought they could do it and really tried.
They did not get the dog as a tiny puppy. So that's not the case at all. She is now as they got her. An adorable little doggie probably as big as she's going to get. She's only a year old so still a puppy and still very much in need of a lot of attention and it's only fair that she be with a family who can dedicate more to her. They did really try their best and are very sad to not be able to keep her but they have to do what's best for them and the dog.
My brother brought her home from a woman in Brooklyn, near his firehouse so he rescued her from being left on the street. The woman came to the firehouse specifically to get rid of her. So at least she was saved from the streets and even though her first home will not work out, she will find a great new home with a better life than she would have had.
She is in no way a bad dog and completely trainable. She just needs simple basic obedience training which they now realize they cannot dedicate 100% at this time.
So please do not worry, we will find her a good home. And thank you for helping.

Re: Anyone want to adopt a doggie? UPDATED with pics!
Denise I will pass on this information to family and friends.
You and YOUR FAMILY are obviously great people who have the dogs best interest at heart and I am just shocked that you received some judgemental remarks on here.
Please do NOT explain yourself. Your brothers family is obviously busy raising a growing family and thought they could handle the responsibilities of the dog they RESCUED. I don't understand how that is being perceived as anything but ADMIRABLE and HONEST.
Well, this is a chat board and people can publicly post there opinions so I felt compelled to post mine.
Best of luck finding that beautiful dog a new home ... Im sure you will find loving new owners.
Like I said, I will pass on the information!

Re: Anyone want to adopt a doggie? UPDATED with pics!
Beautiful dog!!! My Lexie is a boxer-shepherd mix and has the same coloring as your brother's dog. Adorable!
Please know that anyone who comes onto this board looking for a new home for an animal gets attacked. Like it would be better for them to leave them on the street or drop them at a shelter.
At least you're trying to find a loving home for him. Good luck.

Please know, I promise I did not want it to come off as nasty. Just trying to find out more why the doggie didnt work out and hoping that all the negative senarios were wrong.

I am glad you understood my post as concern and wonder since I am passing this doggie on to friends and family. I know anyone who loves animals would see this beautiful dog and wonder why/how could anyone get rid of such a beautiful creature.
I do think it is important to explain as much as you can, so the right owners (people with time and devotion) can be found for this girl and she doesnt have to have a 4th home.
I REALLY appreciate your understanding of my post, your honesty and think it is VERY important for the reasons to be explained so that the next family taking her KNOWS for sure that they are capable of handling the true dog that she is (be it good or bad).

I certainly dont think what she is doing is wrong or worthy of an attack. I certainly dont think its better for them to drop it on the street or in a shelter.
But I DO think that people who consider adopting an animal from another family, when that dog appears to be wonderful, happy, healthy (and ONE year old) DO have to ASK WHY this dog is being given up? Was there no way the original owner could work out a way to keep the dog AND treat it the way it deserves (training, time, love, not being left alone or neglected ,etc)
People most certianly need to know 100% of why...b/c that dog cant afford to go to another home that may be unable to give that girl pup what she needs.

For many people, a growing family INCLUDES having a pet and trying to give it whatever it needs. So the OP simply telling us they have a busy family really does not tell a new prospective owner enough. Many people have families and babies and kids and pets that they work out a way to keep kids and pets happy and healthy and nurtured.
