Anyone watch the Pregnancy Pact movie on Lifetime this week?
UGh. It was sad. I mean SAD. 15 & 16 year old girls...18 pregnant from one high school in one year. They were all smoking and drinking and just didn't get it.
THen one had her baby and she was not happy. She didn't get that it hurt "down there" she couldn't get baby to BF, her Boyfriend yelled that she couldn't get the baby to be quiet.

Oh yes I saw it....I couldnt even believe how when the nurse would tell them in the beginning "no you're not pregnant" how disappointed they were. Very disturbing. They'd just keep trying to get pregnant. Those litlle girls were truly living in La-La Land....unreal!!!!

Dh & I watched it together. We were in SHOCK. I mean, I know it's a movie, but it supposed to be based on a true story.
The girls tricked their BFs into getting PG and then some didn't even tell them! They thought it would be soo fun. ONe girl just kept saying she didn't want to go to college, she just needed to get married and have babies to be happy.

I couldn't get DH to watch it. He thinks his dd will never be sexually active. I come from the school of we will talk about everything, and I will help her get birth control if need be. DH says he will be mad if he finds out. I am going to preach waiting until your married, but being realistic if they are going to do it I want them to be protected. KWIM. DH is so old school in his thinking, and I know all the "talks" will be up to me for girls and boys.

Yes. They had unprotected sex hoping to get pregnant. That scares the crap out of me. Even if the birth control was available they wouldn't have used it.

The movie prompted Dh & I to have this conversation too. I said, "hey is I know my child is doing it, I'm going to make sure she knows the consequences" He said "I'll kill her" Lets be honest here, very few ppl wait for marriage anymore. My parents are off the boat italian old school, I couldn't talk about sex or anything like that with them. I was 24 when I went on BCP and my mom was soo against it, even though it was for medical reasons! She thoguht it was "permission" to have sex. Ummm, yea mom. I plan on being open with DD and tlaking to her honestly. I'm not saying we're going to BFF smoking pot and drinking together when she's 16, but I want her to TALK to me. I didn't talk to my parents utnil I was older, and I definitely made some bad decisions bc of that and hid some dangerous stuff from them!

My DH was the same way. "I'll kill her." I was watching Dr. Oz last week & they had teenagers on talking about things. It was so shocking how young they are doing things, and what they are doing. I am all for open communication too.

Diana, I completely agree. I did not have an open line of communication with my parents, they are immigrants (my mom is Korean and dad is Greek) and their mindset was sooo different than my American friends' parents. Luckily, I was a very 'innocent' kid and didn't get into much trouble--until college that is I think an open line of communication is very important, and although I want my child to understand I am still the parent and NOT a 'buddy', I want him/her to feel comfortable talking to me.

Re: Anyone watch the Pregnancy Pact movie on Lifetime this week?
I saw it, I couldn't believe it...well actually I could. It amazes me how quickly the times change, they are doing things so young. I hope my DC will be able to come to me and feel comfortable talking to me about things like this. The pressure on kids today, especially with sexual things is out of control!

I will definitely be open with my DD way down the road about sex and BC. I am a firm believer that ignoring the issue won't make it go away. I would rather know she is protected than ignore it and have something like this happen!

Re: Anyone watch the Pregnancy Pact movie on Lifetime this week?
DH & I watched it together and we were both in complete shock! The movie was very disturbing but the thing is that it does point out a sad reality of how misinformed a lot of kids are. It was definitely an eye opener and got me thinknig about how to approach the topic with our DC when the time comes....
There was something on the news the other night with Dr. Oz. They were asking people what they think is the righ time to talk to their kids about the birds and the bees. They said to subtract 2 years from what you think is the best, most realistic age to find the best age. Scary thought!
Kids grow up way too fast!
