Anyone who works for Stony Brook, has the Empire plan and went to University Associates on Obstretics & Gynecology during their pregnancy?
Okay, I work for SB, have the Empire plan and during both my pregnancies went to University Associates.
Keep in mind all of the people who work for SB, most likely have te same insurance as me.
So during this pregnancy, the office they sent me labs to Quest, which is a non-participating provider. I didn't know this until I get the bills after my son was born.
In my file with my first pregancy, it is noted to send the lab work to a participating lab, so I assumed they knew since it is noted in my file.
I have bills for over 250.00 bec they sent it to Quest. Of course I am writing a letter to University Associates and Quest and the Insurance co appealing these charges. Did this happen to anyone else and how did you resolve it and did you resolve it without any $ coming from your pocket?
I don't get it, the staff at the office work for SB, most likely have the same insurance as me and still send the labs to Quest?

Sounds like someone made a mistake. This happened to me once at my Dr's office- labs were sent to Lab Corp when I had Quest thru my ins. When I challanged them, they took care of it. Its their responsibility to know what ins you have and which lab is a provider!!

I called the Drs office and said "hey, why did you send my blood to Lab Corp when my lab is Quest? Lab Corp is not a provider and now im being billed" They admitted an error and took care of the bill.

that's very specific; you could have FMd me!
It happened to me, and I called the office when I got the bills and they took care of it. Sooooo annoying though. I also got like a $10,000 bill for Will's NICU stay, but Empire took care of that.
