Anyone with a cautious kid?
DS will be 2 in a couple of weeks. I find that he is very cautious with things. My niece is much more of a daredevil. She's a little older, but always like that (then again she's the 5th kid of my sisters and DS is our first).
Even with new toys that talk or make noises he won't go by and shakes his head No. Takes him a while to warm up to new toys. Got him sandals and he's used to his sneakers so he won't let me put the sandals on his feet. He has texture issues with food so he won't try new food. Even if it's ice-cream or dessert!
He IS very sociable. He goes to daycare. Walks right in to play. Goes to other kids no problem, adapts well to new environments, etc. Just don't understand how he's so cautious with certain things and so outgoing with others. Even going down the slide he puts his feet out to keep him slow while my niece will go face first and not care.
A small step he makes sure to hold onto something when it's really a nothing step. Anyone else have a LO similiar?

Funny, but he will run. It's slowing down around a little step or even going over a crack on the sidewalk
Bethany - that's totally my niece. Last year when she was younger than DS is now she was climbing on the monkey bars, sliding down the big kid slide no worries.

Re: Anyone with a cautious kid?
My son is very similar, he is 5 now, but he would never jump off of anything when he was little or climb, or open drawers...he is very social and popular in school, but never hurt himself or anything like that.
My Daughter on the other hand, she is a menace to society!!!

Funny, he's pretty good at not getting hurt. Now I'm prego with #2 and for some reason I have a feeling this one will be a nut

Re: Anyone with a cautious kid?
DS is this way. Up until maybe 6-10 months ago (he is 3.5) he wouldnt even go on the bouncers. He hated anything were he felt unstable. He wouldnt go on slides if they were too high or steep, he wouldnt touch something if he felt it was questionable etc.He has never gone down a slide headfirst or anything, only sitting feet first. He analyzes everything before he tries it. On numerous times he told his gymnastic teacher "no thank you" when he was asked to do something that meant him off the ground, jumping from a height etc.
Now at 3.5 he is less cautious...but its still his personality to take it slow before jumping.

Yes, DS is totally not a daredevil! He's cautious and nervous about things. I'm kind of happy about that. He drives me crazy in other ways

Same here. i would take overly cautious anyday over my fearless child who will jump off of anything and everything.
My 1st DD was the same way and by 2 we were in the hospital for her first round of stiches. Thankfully we're almost at the 2 mark now and have had no hosptial bouts with DD#2.

Re: Anyone with a cautious kid?
Other than the food issues you mentioned, you described my DD to a T... she will be 2 in a couple weeks.
She gets very nervous when she has to walk on uneven surfaces, like grass--you would think she's just learning how to walk. She wont go down the slide if you don't hold her hand. She has to hold on to something when going down even the smallest of steps. She is SOOOOO cautious about everything. Sometimes I wish she would be more brave, but then other times I thank my lucky stars because I don't have to chase her around to stop her from hurting herself. lol

Re: Anyone with a cautious kid?
DS is cautious with some things. Mainly if we are outside. He won't run on the concrete, which is ok by me. He is very cautious when he is in a new environment. He won't go down the step at my Moms house. I have to pick him up. In the house, he is a mad man..Running all over. He can get up the stairs at my moms in 5 seconds. Jumps on the bed and the couch.
