Anyone with a pet with diabetes?
We have two cats and just found out that the female has diabetes - we started giving her shots yesterday.
Has anyone else gone thru this? It is hard as the two always ate the same food etc - now they eat different food and our other cat no longer wants his food but wants her new special diabetes food

My Regi has diabetes. His food was the same(could be because he was a dog). He had to get the shots twice a day. Animals have an internal clock. When your cat gets used to the shots and time schedule, she might start crying for it at the same time everyday. Cats are smart. THey will start to realize the shot is helping them.
As for the diabetic food, I would ask your vet if the non diabetic cat could eat some too. Or blend it into his regular food.
Another thing to keep in your house in Karo syrup. Your cat might go into "shock" and need some extra sugar. But ask your vet about this first.
She will probably pee a lot more and dirink more water.
Do you have to check her urine every morning?? I remember doing that and adjusting the insulin needle to the certain level of insulin needed.
Good luck.
