We like Duraflame logs or seasoned wood...makes a nice cozy fire! We have one burning right now.

My house has one. My mother is relying on it to heat the house more than the oil burner, and it is working. We buy a cord of wood and keep it covered and bring it in every weekend. It saves a lot on oil!

We had one years ago. You need to burn a hard wood that has been seasoned for at least a year. Soft woods will let creosote build up in your chimney which could start a fire where you don't want one. All you need to start a fire is newspaper and kindling. Once that gets burning, start putting your logs on and let the warming begin.

Would the duraflame logs be good for that? are they hard woods? Do I need all the tools and stuff? how often do I have to clean out the ashes?
