Anyone with Empire NYSHIP insurance? Looking for advice on IVF meds
We have NYSHIP insurance and while they are great, I have had problems getting my meds filled the last two cycles. The orders have to be processed through medco/accredo yet they take 8 days to process an order. It seems they don't understand that in most cases you only find out that you need to start a drug maybe that day or the next day.
So, to anyone with this insurance, what do you to get your meds on time?

I don't have the same insurance, but this came up at the bottom of your post. Maybe this will help you? http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic-533253-1.html

Thanks. We could use Freedom and Kraupner a few months ago but that has all changed now.

I don't know where you live but there is a pharmacy in Stony Brook that stocks infertility meds. They take NYSHIP insurance. Hope that helps!

Re: Anyone with Empire NYSHIP insurance? Looking for advice on IVF meds
i use the exact same pharmacy b s!!!!
and the longest i have had to wait is 2 days...which is still way tooooo long bc sometimes you have to start right away.
do you ask to speak to a pharmacy manager? i did that and when one person told me a week...next thing i knew voila...2 days!
and lets say you need 6 of something for example for this cycle........ i ask dr b's office to call in more ( usually copay is same) so i have left overs for my next cycle so i dont sweat as much.
there is also rvc pharmacy that carries specialty meds in a pinch but may cost more!! gl

Re: Anyone with Empire NYSHIP insurance? Looking for advice on IVF meds
Are you IUI or IVF? Whenever i am about to start a new cycle, I call my RE on CD1 (to make appt for CD3) and they call in my script to Acreedo. They also make sure to PUT A RUSH ON. Additionally, I call by 1pm to ensure that they have processed the order. If I do all of the above, I get my meds within the next day or two.
this being said, I have had some issues in the past. However, if you require meds, acreedo can and will transfer your prescription to kraupners. But only THEY can do it (otherwise you will be charged). If you have any questions, let me know...after my zillion of IVF cycles I've become a "pro" at this

Re: Anyone with Empire NYSHIP insurance? Looking for advice on IVF meds
I have that insurance and have had problems as well. I'm not sure if you know this but not ALL meds have to be through Accredo. Not even all injectibles do. I found out that Lupron although an injectable could be gotten through Kraupners for no additional charges. Also any oral meds. And like a previous poster said, try and speak to a manager they can and will get you what you need faster. Also I learned the hard way that I have to call and check for myself to see if a prescription has been sent out because even though my scripts had been faxed in by the dr. they were not sent to me.

Re: Anyone with Empire NYSHIP insurance? Looking for advice on IVF meds
Thanks all! Good (kind of) to know that I am not alone.
I did call NYSHIP back and asked to speak to a care coordinator. I explained the whole sorry story and they transferred me to Accredo directly. The person at Accredo was so helpful and said if the meds are called in instead of faxed they will be handled within 24 hours. Good to know for future reference.
I did already have one order placed through Freedom so they won't honor anymore. My last order of ganirelix cost me $600 through Kraupner because I didn't have time to get it through Accredo. I am still trying to claim that back...

Re: Anyone with Empire NYSHIP insurance? Looking for advice on IVF meds
I've dealt w/Accredo also and find it frustrating. It's mostly my Lovenox that I've had to order thru them. I always give myself at least 10 days worth of meds to get me thru, since ordering w/them seems to take forever. They won't allow me to order it thru Kraupner's anymore.
