Anyone work in the auto insurance field?
To make a long story short, a woman hit my parked car in a parking lot. I want HER insurance to pay the repair bill and not go throught mine at all. (Why should I get penalized or have to pay my deductable for something I didn't have any part in...?)
Is that possible that her company will pay the whole thing and not involve mine?
Any advice would be appreciated - thanks!

You can file a claim with her company and you do not have to report it to yours. If your car was parked, they should pay !00%.

No, you are required by law to notify your insurance company. It's extremely unlikely that they will settle without involving your company b/c they will try to get money back through subrogation...as will your insurance company (your deductible)

This isn't completely true. You can very well put in a claim without calling your insurance company. You have the option to call your insurance company, file through them, and they will re-coop your deductible and monies they paid OR you can file directly with the other persons insurance and they will pay you as long as the person is at fault (which in this case they are). Typically, people in rear end hits or when their car is parked and unoccupied file only through the other persons insurance.

Re: Anyone work in the auto insurance field?
BUT - why should it involve my insurance at all?? If she hit a piece of my personal property (say I owned a big wooden box) it wouldn't go through my auto insurance, so why does my AUTO insurance have to be involved? She hit me?
Know what I mean

Re: Anyone work in the auto insurance field?
I work in claims in auto insurance. Your car was parked? She was 100% liable. Put a 3rd party claim in through her insurance. It may take longer than if you go 1st party because they may make you wait until they get her version of the accident before sending the check.
They may tell you that you could go through your own and get your deductible back through subrogation but it will take several months (sometimes longer) before you'd get that money back.
GOOD LUCK!!

I have never heard of this before. I have worked for 2 large auto insurance companies too. I have never worked in subro, so maybe that is why. I can't even tell you how many claims have been handled by me with people who have put in claims through other insurance companies and there has NEVER been a problem or issue with their coverage. That is weird..

It's true your company could deny you coverage for that loss if you don't report it (because a report has to be timely) but if you are not going to use your coverage then that is not an issue.
Your insurance is there if you want to use it or if you are liable for someone else's damages. If your car was parked and you are not liable, you do not have to report it. Just because your car is damaged doesn't mean you have to file a claim for it. If you do carry collision coverage and you don't want to use it, and you are not liable for anyone else's damages, you don't have to report it.

Re: Anyone work in the auto insurance field?
I had this happen to me and I used my insurance only for the paperwork. You are of no fault, so your insurance shouldn't change.
The other insurance company paid in full for everything, even a rental car.

Maybe b/c DH works for a smaller high risk auto insurance company?
But yes, being in subro, he has claims all the time from the other insurance company trying to recoup some money, especially in parking lot accidents...

Re: Anyone work in the auto insurance field?
any accident has to be reported cause if you do it down the road, they could deny it due to time. your insurance company could get involved just to make sure everything was taken care of. if you have her info, i would call hers, see what happens, then call yours to let them know.
i got rear-ended years ago, and her company paid everything the very next day. (she admitted she was wrong)

Re: Anyone work in the auto insurance field?
I got hit when my car was parked -( good thing there were cops in the parking lot or that guy would have taken off)
lets just say it was hit by a tractor trailor making a U turn
I did call my ins. co., and my agent called their ins. co. for me, but it didnt "go" thru my insurance at alll-does not show up on my records, etc. I did not pay a dime out of pocket.

Re: Anyone work in the auto insurance field?
You still should report it to your insurance...if its 100% not your fault your rates will not go up and they can go after the other person's insurance company for you.
