Take the E to 51st St. and then the 6 to 59th. However, you still need to walk a few blocks to 1st b/c the 6 is the Lexington line. I don't know the buses.

The easiest would probably be the F train to 63rd and Lexington and walk. I am working at bloomingdales this week on 60th and 3rd. I take the 1,2,3,9 to 42nd. I transfer to the N or R and take that to 59th and Lexington. You can transfer to the 4,5,6 or F line (not sure which one is local) or just walk. Nicer weather I take the train from herald square.

That's what I used to do when I lived on 65th and 1st.
