Anyone's baby NOT like fruit?
We started Sarah on apples today. It's the first fruit the doctor told us to try. She's 20 weeks old.
She hated it. We mixed it with rice cereal in the morning and she ate a few bites and made the nasty face each time and then started crying hysterically.
At the evening feeding we mixed it with barley (her favorite cereal) and the same thing. Then we gave her some plain barley cereal which she scarfed down and I gave her a spoonful of just the applesauce and we got the nasty face all over again and she started crying.
I'm going to ask the doctor how long to wait to try again in the morning, but I was just wondering if anyone else experienced this as well.

Cassidy has liked them all so far EXCEPT for peaches...she will not eat them. I'll probably try giving them to her again in a few weeks.
Maybe it was just the apples that Sarah didn't like and she'll be OK with the others...?

Re: Anyone's baby NOT like fruit?
I'm hoping. He said to try pears 3 days after the apples and then bananas 3 days after that. And I'm a paraniod rules follower, so I don't want to do anything he didn't tell me. LOL.

yeah, you should wait the 3 days to make sure she doesn't have an allergic reaction to the apples. Cassidy LOVES bananas. Hopefully it was just that one fruit that she hates

Re: Anyone's baby NOT like fruit?
I started with peaches and Kevin made the worst faces the first time. He whimpered too. Closed his mouth - wasn't even letting cereal in. I barely got a quarter of the peaches jar in him. Sounds similar to what you descibed without the hysterics. He did better at the afternoon feeding but still wasn't happy. By the next day he gobbled it and loved it. He loved apples and pears - those were the next two I tried. Didn't love the bananas - ate them but not with the same enthusiasm. But every now and then when I give him peaches he still makes initial faces at them. He likes them but not his favorite.

It takes at least 10 attempts at a new food to really determine if a baby likes it. Keep trying!

I wonder if it's something with peaches...Amber hates them. No disguising them, she "knows" if they are the slighest mixed in. Hmmnnnn...??

Re: Anyone's baby NOT like fruit?
When I started marissa on fruit I started her on pears she loved them I left apples for last but she liked all her fruits. I know how frusterating it can be cuz when I got to the veggies she gave me a hard time with carrots but after a while she took to them so have patience and sooner or later he will take to them.

Re: Anyone's baby NOT like fruit?
I started with bananas and Andrew made a face like he hated it at first, but then he ate it (it was mixed with rice cereal). But after two days he got these welts on his face -- so my doctor told me to stop the bananas. We moved on to applesauce, peaches and pears and he seems to like those...

Re: Anyone's baby NOT like fruit?
Thanks everyone! The doctor said to hold off on the fruit for a little while. She eats cereal like a champ (4 tablespoons at breakfast and another 4 at dinner). I'm going to give pears a try in a few days, and then maybe bananas a go over the weekend.
Funny that so many babies don't care for the peaches. I just bought a bunch of them over the weekend to make for her, guess DH and I will be eating them ourselves!
