Anyone's cat love to chew wires??
I was wondering if anyone can offer any advice. Ever since my cat was a baby (she is 6 years old now) she has LOVED to chew and gnaw on wires- or anything thin actually- q-tips from the garbage, blind cords, etc. She chewed through the wires on 2 cordless phones already, there are bite marks on my cell phone charger if I have the phone charging in her reach, she chewed on my laptop power supply. I have to keep the bathroom door closed when I'm not home because she will go in there and chew on the cord to my curling iron, hair dryer etc. Yesterday my hubby left his IPOD on the kitchen table and when he came home she had chewed right through the thin wire of the headset. It's just becoming a real issue and I worry about her going behind our wall unit and chewing on the all the tv/stereo/dvr wires back there.
Does anyone else's cat do this? Is there anything I can do to stop it? Do they sell like a bitter spray or something I can spray on the wires to keep her away from them?

A while ago I bought a rubberish tube to put around wires. Maybe that will help. Too bad the US plugs don't have a switch that will shut the electricity off for each plug.

I am surprised the cat has not been electrocuted, but more than likely has had a shock or two. There are a number of products that will deter this type of behavior. I suggest you try your local pet supply store. There are sprays you can use on the cords and also gels. I would also look in the dog section for rope toys, one which is thin and perhaps not rope but nylon.

Re: Anyone's cat love to chew wires??
I had a cat for 15 years that loved to chew wires,(she passed away due to an unrelated wire-chewing illness). There was nothing we could do to deter her from doing this...I can't tell you how many times we replaced the coaxial cable in my old apartment. Eventually, when we moved, I went to Home Depot to the plumbing department and bought this hard flexible tubing to run the cable through so I didn't keep losing my tv.
I hope you have better luck than I did!

Thank you! I thought I was the only one! I am going to buy the spray they sell in Petco that deters chewing...I think it tastes really bad to them or something. If that doesn't work I will try the hard tubing you mention...it's just hard because I will have to cover every wire in the house. Though she doesnt' really chew on the thick electrical cords- like the ones on a lamp etc... she likes the thin ones- speaker wire, etc....
