Anyone's DC have a Frenulectomy (Tongue-tie surgery)
DS is tongue tied. Pediatrician doesn't think it's a big deal. ENT is recommending surgery as he thought it was pretty significant. I would rather err on the side of caution and do it; I don't want him to be self conscious when he is older and/or have any speech issues.
Has anyone DC's had this? What's the recovery like? Is there a lot of bleeding? DS will only be 8 months at time of surgery.
TIA

Anyone's DC have a Frenulectomy (Tongue-tie surgery)
Both of my kids have had this as newborns. They can either snip it, or lazer cut it--but it's just a super quick outpatient procedure.
There was maybe one drop of blood and we were given teething gel for any discomfort/fussiness but never needed it,

Re: Anyone's DC have a Frenulectomy (Tongue-tie surgery)
Not myself but two of my friends dealt with this. My one friend's two sons had it snipped at like a week or so old. My other friend did nothing and now her 5 year old needs extensive speech therapy. He has a speech impediment, can't eat certain foods and is learning how to use a straw. I think she is regretting him not having the surgery but she still won't do it (I'm not sure why).

Re: Anyone's DC have a Frenulectomy (Tongue-tie surgery)
DS was about a month old at the time and we had it done at the ENTs office. Quick snip, a little blood, and it was over.
We didn't want it to cause speech or other issues later on and we were told that if we waited until he was older to have it done, it's a bigger procedure.

Re: Anyone's DC have a Frenulectomy (Tongue-tie surgery)
My ds had this done at 8 months as well. He had both a tongue tie and lip tie (they usually go hand in hand.) We had it lasered not clipped. It was an outpatient procedure that basically involved holding ds down while they did it. That was the hardest part for me since he is strong, but he was perfectly fine shortly after. My ped didn't even notice it. I realized what it was when his teeth started coming in and there was a huge gap. I had several friends who had gone through this, so I recognized the issue. It hadn't really caused any problems (except a possible oversupply) but we chose to correct it due to the possible long term issues that could arise.

Re: Anyone's DC have a Frenulectomy (Tongue-tie surgery)
ds is tongue tied, at around the same age we opted NOT to do the frenulctomy bc of the sedation. His wasnt mild, but not severe either. He is totally fine speech wise now. My DD has it as well but severe, she is 3 and has a little lisp but we waited to see what happened with it before doing it so young in case it turned out to be nothing like DS's. We will be bringing her to have it done.

We had my daughters TT and ULT lasered at 9 months. There is no sedation required. I highly recommend Dr. Scott Siegal in Melville.
Edited to add: she definitely cried during the procedure, but it took all of 2 minutes. Once it was over she nursed immediately. I never saw a drop of blood.

Anyone's DC have a Frenulectomy (Tongue-tie surgery)
We just learned my son has this & he is 3yr old. He has no speech delays. We will leave it as no reason to do surgery.
My friend had it done on her twins without any issue

Speech issues depend on the severity and varies case to case. My daughter had it at a day old. Super short procedure she barely winced and was fine right after.
