Anyone's DC have an insatiable appetite while EBFing? HELP!
DC will be 4 weeks tomorrow and has been EBFing like a champ  He typically does like 11-12 feedings a day.
He does have his days of cluster feedings-maybe like 2 days a week, where he'll feed 2 or 3 more times, which is fine-my ped said it's totally normal.
The weirdest thing last night and this morning happened though-he was INSATIABLE!! No joke he fed for 2 hours last night (I kept switching boobs). He did it again this morning for 2 hours. I watch him when he feeds and he's definitely swallowing and drinking (not using my boob as a pacifier). When I tried to pull him away he would cry and keep giving the signals that he was hungry.
I'm SO exhausted and was crying this morning....I think out of sheer tiredness.
ETA: Breastfeeding so far has been a great experience, I LOVE doing it, but last night and this morning's one off occurences put me over the edge (could be hormones too!)
Is that even normal?? I left a message for the lactation nurse where I delivered to call me back.
I haven't given him a paci yet...not sure if that would even help though?
I plan on EBFing (pumping/breast combo) for as long as I can, I'd love to do it until DS is a year old.
Any insight you can give me would help so much.

Totally normally. Likely a growth spurt and all that work he is doing is likely stimulating additional milk to be made in your body. Since it seems that his latch is very, very well established I would consider offering a binky to give yourself a bit of time to recover. I used a binky with both my girls and they both nursed successfully over a year.
Do you have any friends who have been through this that can reassure you that you are doing everything right? (because it sure sounds like you are!)
Hang in there, it will get much much easier. It feels like forever and is torture for the first few months, but you can do this!

definitely sounds like a growth spurt. Chloe definitely did this around 8 or 9 weeks I remember.. maybe even before, but I was too tired to remember. It definitely gets easier!

the growth spurts are tough- hang in there like a pp said, it definitely gets easier. I started pumping during his first growth spurt and that helped a lot- it allowed me to have other people feed him so that I could get some sleep.

Both my DDs were like this!! I know how you feel! I felt like I spent my entire life on the same spot on my couch. So to me it sounds normal.
I think the books talk about growth spurts every 4 weeks in the beginning. I wonder if this is one...
I had no problem giving the pacifier from day one with all of my children--none of them ended up having any problems with nipple confusion, if that's what you're worried about. In fact, none of them really took to it much at all. Also, I always relied upon a "rescue bottle" each day--one bottle of formula. I'm not saying YOU should give formula if you're EBF strictly...maybe you could pump then? Again, I did this from day one--in the hospital!
Hang in there...you're doing amazing!!!

I don't have that much advice.. but just wanted to say good luck and keep up with the good work!! You will get through it.
Brady was insatiable ALL the time with the boob.. I eventually caved and supplemented with formula.. He then needed more and more formula and was happier with that so I just stopped breastfeeding bc he was happier and it was easier on me. I am still mad at myself for doing that.. but can't do anything about that now

definitely a growth spurt!!! I wish that I would have known this with my DC!! and it happened around 4 weeks too..he would nurse on me for over an hour and still be hungry!!! that's when I just gave up, and I wish I didn't!! I heard they get over this though so as long as you can get through this, it should go back to normal!!

I agree. Also it gets easier and easier. Tthe feedings will (hopefully) also be more spread out soon. They get more efficient and don't need such long feedings too.

DS was and still is an animal!!  You sound like you are doing everything right!!! Keep up the great work! Like the other girls said, definitely sounds like a growth spurt. I remember many days where I just set up the boppy pillow and let DS just stay there because it was the only way to keep him quiet (he wouldn't take a binkie for the first few months). The good news is, it will pass...until the next one  Best of luck to you, you are doing wonderful

I wanted to say exactly this. I had similar experience. Ds would nurse for an hour at a time and only give me. 1-2 hours between feedings. It never got better, he had one giant growth spurt from 1 week to 6m.
I really wish you lots of luck, don't ever stop asking for help

When my daughter was that age, if she was awake, she had a boob in her mouth. He is probably having a growth spurt! Keep up the good work!!

connor was always on the boob until about 2.5 months then all of a sudden he would stretch for more than hour hahhah its very hard and each time i got upset i handed him over to dh and ran into my bed, prayed and fell asleep
