Anyone's DC's bedroom on a different floor?

I keep seeing threads about moving DC to their own bedroom. I am SO dreading this day (DD is 2 1/2 months now) mainly because her bedroom is one floor below ours. It completely freaks me out that she'll be downstairs while we're upstairs (it's about 8 steps, not a full flight).

I know we can bring her crib into our room and I can sleep in hers, etc. ... but obviously that's not a long-term solution. We do have a video monitor and I know that'll help a lot ... but basically, I'm just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this. Thanks ..

Well we have a cape and we have two bedrooms downstairs & the master bedroom upstairs. We just use both bedrooms downstairs, and use the master as my office/ play room. Can you maybe move your bedroom? If not then I'm sure the monitor will be fine.

I have a cape also with the master upstairs and two beds down unfortunatly we have to use all the rooms. We are upstairs and my oldest has his own room down stairs and my other two share a room. It's was hard in the beginning (I even sleep on the couch a few times because I was to scared to go up) but then I realized I hear everything on my monitor and thank god never had a problem. Wish I had all my bed rooms on the same floor but what can I do.Chat Icon

We passed on a house for this very reason. I knew I wouldn't be able to do it.
Do you have a video monitor? Maybe that would make it easier on you if you could always see her.

DS is upstairs, and DD and us are downstairs. Except for having to walk up a flight of stairs at 3am sometimes, it's not that much different than being down the hall. You'll always figure out how to work within your environment. We don't have a video monitor, just audio.

We have a cape and kids BR are upstairs and master suite is down. We had no problems since we used the video monitor and Angel Care. I dread when she trasnsitions to a toddler bed.

Another cape here, master is downstairs and 2 bedrooms are up. Works out fine other than negotiating the stairs at 3am, but like GoldenRod said you just get used to it. It doesn't even phase me anymore (at 1 yr old). I did sleep in his room on the spare bed for 2 months when he first went up there. After 3-4 months old teh video monitor was fine. I can hear EVERYTHING on that thing.

Good to hear. This is going to be my situation. I registered for a video monitor.

Both my DC's rooms are downstairs and we are upstairs. Our master used to be the attic, which was finished off. Their rooms and literally at the bottom of the steps. I never had a problem with it though... that's what monitors are for. I crank up the volume and I can hear every breath they take.
